Bridal Beauty Q & A With Meg | Moving Forward As Covid-19 Restrictions Relax
You’re not alone when it comes to figuring out how to move forward with your wedding day plans as Covid-19 restrictions begin to relax. Couples around the world had to postpone their plans and cope with the realization that their wedding day might not turn out exactly how they envisioned it. With guidelines for social distancing and sheltering in place and mask mandates varying not only from state to state but from country to country, none of us know exactly when things will completely return to what they are now calling the “new normal” will be. To help you keep moving forward with your wedding day beauty plans we’ve gathered some answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received from brides about how they can prepare for their wedding day once it arrives.
Q: My wedding day was scheduled for early spring and now it will be a fall wedding, do I need to rethink my hairstyle?
A: Don’t get caught up in trends. Whether your hair is long or short, thick or thin, blonde, brunette or red, choose a style that fits your personality that truly reflects the most beautiful version of you. Do some experimenting of your own and take lots of selfies. When the day comes for your hair and makeup trial you’ll have plenty of inspiration to share with your beauty team.
Q: Wearing a mask every day is reeking havoc on my skin, are there options that are better for my skin?
A: Maskne, yes, it’s a thing! The hot moist environment created by the mask can breed bacteria and traps oil, sweat and dirt can cause heat rash-like reactions along with flare ups of eczema, rosacea and acne.
To prevent irritations and breakouts you need to be proactive and take some action before the mask goes on. First and foremost wash your face gently to remove oils, dirt and bacteria and apply moisturizer. Avoid comedogenic products, as well as other irritating ingredients such as fragrances.
Choose a mask that suits the environment you’ll be in. The type of fabric that you put against your skin can make a difference. For low-risk situations natural fibers like cotton are the most gentle.
Q: What should I do to protect my skin now that we’re able to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine and beaches?
A: Your skin is worth protecting in every season, choose use a broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen that provides protection from both UVA and UVB rays with a minimum spf of 30. Additionally, remember to moisturize both morning and night, both central heating and A/C dry our skin. For more check out our Tanning Tips For Brides.
Q: My lips are so chapped from wearing masks, what can I do to make sure my lips are kissable and soft on my wedding day?
You need a lip routine STAT! Much like the neckline and the décolleté the lips are often forgotten. Dehydration and lack of protection are the primary contributors to premature aging lips. Under normal circumstances the elements like the sun, wind and cold dry air all cause dry, chapped, flaky lips and now that wearing a face mask is required to go just about anywhere, our lips are battling a whole new challenge.
A: Exfoliate! Hydrate! Gently exfoliate your lips with a gentle sugar scrub like Fresh’s Sugar Lip Polish. Hydrate with lip products that have nourishing ingredients such as beeswax, shea butter, or petroleum jelly. (only use medicated lip products if you have cold sores or fever blisters). Opt for a daily lip products that contain SPF and stay clear of flavored balms or those that contain mint, menthol or cinnamon, as they typically contain artificial colors or dyes that can dry the lips with extended use. Drink plenty of water and eat naturally hydrating foods to help hydrate your lips and skin from within.
Q: Dark circles under my eyes have always been a challenge for me and over the past year the stress has been so overwhelming I can’t seem to reduce them at all, do you have any advice or tips I can use?
A: You’re not alone, it’s a question we hear often from planning brides. Get plenty of rest. Pace yourself ! Whether its working on your wedding favors or just going about your day to day activities, SLEEP! Sleep it’s what heals us. Getting an ample amount of sleep helps to improve your over all complexion, helps get rid those dark circles, relieves stress and improves your disposition overall. Applying a cold compress can help shrink dilated blood vessels and reduce the appearance of puffiness. Try elevating your head when you sleep to help prevent pooling under the eyes.
And again, we can’t stress this enough when it comes to taking care of the skin you’re in, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!
