Today we have some tips for you that will not only help guide you in choosing the best artistic team for your hair and makeup needs they will also help protect you in the event of a wedding day disaster.
Makeup In The 702 has been in the wedding business for over a decade in Las Vegas and we’ve witnessed many changes in the hair and makeup talent here during that time one of which is the “Insta-Artist”, sure they may have 20k followers and hundreds of likes per post but where’s their product? Where’s the bride? Where the wedding party??? Are they licensed? Do they have insurance? Do they use contracts? These are all professional standards that a bride may not realize are important until it’s too late.

Have a budget in mind
If you find pricing that seems much lower than the standard in your city, then, that’s a big indicator of the type of service you will receive. Costs have to be cut somewhere, are they sacrificing cleanliness or using substandard products, it’s all relative in the beauty business. $1.99 foundation doesn’t give you the same result as $59.00 foundation….the lower the price the lower than standards.
The cost of a makeup artist also directly correlates with the number of years in service and ongoing education. A 2-year makeup artist certainly does not possess the same skill set and experience as a 10-year veteran. So, at the end of the day, the greater the cost the more education, skill set and experience a makeup artist has. Isn’t that who you want to trust on your wedding day?
With 2020 dates now at a premium we highly recommend that you book early! Bridal makeup artists tend to book way in advance, in some cases up to a year and given the recent shutdowns key dates for weddings are minimal for the remainder of the year. Once you have your time and date set and you know your ready by time, you’ll need to determine who in your party will want/need hair and makeup. It’s vital that your hair and makeup team have the best understanding of your timing of the day to ensure they are both available on the date you need and that they are available for the amount of time you and your bridal party will need. Make sure you know whether you’re booking with an agency with a larger team or an individual, an individual artist may not be able to handle a larger bridal party in a timely manner. You should not feel rushed, stressed and pressed the hours leading up to your ceremony.
Get the contract! We’ve seen broken commitments and broken hearts don’t let your wedding day be a victim!
We can’t stress this enough. Imagine you’re a bride in the short hours before your ceremony anxiously awaiting the arrival of your hair and makeup artist and they are a no show…. it’ happens and it’s devastating. If you did not have a contract in place for their services you have no recourse. Be wary of those that do not ask for a deposit it’s an open door for no show. As we mentioned earlier make sure your artist is licensed, a non-licensed makeup artist or stylist is HUGE red flag for disaster in that they clearly do not yet understand this key element of professionalism of business.
