Skincare Rehab: Pre-Wedding Skincare
Fresh, Fabulous & Camera Ready!
Springtime has arrived and now is the time that many spring and summer brides start thinking about how to achieve that naturally sun kissed glow for their skin. Sunny days, fresh blooms and springtime weddings are the perfect motivator to shake off the gloomy days of winter and capture the healthy glow of spring.
Be cautious when it comes to trends!
Fashion week in Paris just wrapped up and while the fashion was “fascinating” the models all had one thing in common, they all looked exhausted. The TikTok trend for under eye circles made it’s way to the runway, this nod to grunge 90’s trend is not one you’ll want to see in your wedding photos.
When it comes to your wedding day photos you’ll want to look back at images that reflect the most beautiful version of you, not a trend. On the real though it seems more and more of us are genuinely exhausted these days so we’ll start our pro-tips for taming those under eye bags and dark circles.
For your Eyes
The cause of dark circles and puffy bags under the eyes comes from a number of factors including stress, lack of sleep, age, and lack of hydration.
What works for reducing them varies from person to person. There are many home remedies like cucumber slices, tea bags, icy spoons or ice packs all of which can be effective in reducing swelling. Some more modern aids include creams, serums and patches. There is no magic fix you might have to try a few different techniques to determine what produces the best results for you. Prevention will help too, get plenty of rest, steer clear of caffeine, salty foods and don’t over indulge with alcohol.
For your Skin
If you’re a regular reader of our blog, then you’ve heard me say this a million times… GOOD SKIN AND GOOD COLOR GO HAND IN HAND! Dull dry skin, it’s one of the common concerns and challenges that every bride faces. Planning a wedding can spike up your stress levels which can affect the overall appearance, texture, and health of your skin, especially around the eyes. The good news is it’s never to late to start a good skin care routine and your wedding day is a good motivator to start some great new habits to take care of your skin for your wedding day and beyond. Planning at least 6 months out is a good rule of thumb but if you don’t have that long START NOW!
Cleanse
First and foremost wash your face gently to remove oils, dirt and bacteria and apply moisturizer to keep your moisture barrier in tact. Avoid comedogenic products, as well as other irritating ingredients such as fragrances. Nighttime cleansing is absolutely essential, not only to remove makeup but to remove pollutants that irritate the skin and zap the skins moisture.
Exfoliate
The cold air from winter days brings dry and flaky dreary skin so wake up your skin with exfoliation. Try adding a cleansing brush system or a physical exfoliate to your skin care routine two to three times a week (daily is too much). A physical exfoliate is a face scrub with rough little bits of material that removes layers of dead skin cells. A brush system massages cleansers into your skin as it gently exfoliates. Either technique will deliver much needed moisture to your stressed skin.
Hydrate
No matter what season it is your skin craves water! Hydrate both your body and your skin by drinking plenty of water and eating foods high in antioxidants and protein to help keep the elastic and prevents wrinkles. Try grapefruit, cucumbers, tomatoes and kale they are all super foods for your face. A toner spritz is a great moisture prep and a super pick me up in the car, at the gym or on the run and a hydrating mask is a super treat for your face and a little “you time”
Don’t forget to wear protection
Sunscreen that is….Your skin is worth protecting in every season and a broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen that provides protection from both UVA and UVB rays with a minimum spf of 30 is a good guideline to choose one that is right for you. Hats are Back! I can’t think of more stylish way to protect your face from the suns harmful rays. Don’t forget to protect your eyes as well!
Beauty rest, it’s a thing
Pace yourself ! Whether its working on your wedding favors or just going about your day to day activities, SLEEP! Sleep it’s what heals us. Getting an ample amount of sleep helps to improve your complexion, helps get rid those dark circles, relieves stress and improves your disposition overall.
Clean up your makeup bag
You’ll probably want to pep up your springtime pallet so now is the perfect time to clean up your makeup bag. Makeup builds up germs and bacteria over time so ditch any products that are old or expired and give your brushes a deep clean. Every time you swipe on your blush with a dirty brush, you add a layer of acne-causing bacteria to your skin. Cleaning your brushes is easy, just read our 3 DIY Tips To Clean Your Makeup Brushes to learn more.
