Now’s the time to take your color next level! Whether you’re an ambitious blonde, a sassy red head or a blushing brunette you deserve to look insanely beautiful on your wedding day beginning with your perfect color.
Now isn’t the time for anything drastic, after-all twenty years from now you’ll want to recognize that gorgeous bride in the photos, you on your most beautiful day. If you don’t already color your hair regularly and your wedding day is relatively close now may not be the time to start. To amp up your natural color opt for a clear gloss shine, it won’t change your color but will give you salon fresh shine and dramatically improve texture and smoothness without damaging your hair.
Now if you are one that is comfortable with color and have a regular colorist start planning your color as soon as possible or at a minimum four to six months out. If you don’t have a regular colorist that knows you and your hair well the search can be daunting so don’t rest on your laurels and risk a last minute decision start looking for one as early as possible and don’t be afraid to ask for a referral from a friend or colleague that regularly colors their hair.
If you plan to wear extensions for your wedding day then be sure to let your colorist know and bring he/she a sample if possible to ensure that the color flows with your planned hair style.
Be very direct and honest with your colorist when conveying your vision. Bring photos for inspiration and don’t go for anything too trendy unless it’s something you already do regularly.
The recommended timeline for color application depends on the level of drama you’re seeking. We find that most brides seek to go lighter and softer with their wedding day color so if you’re a brunette looking to go blonde plan on about a six month process and at least four salon visits.
For routine color plan on having your color touched up about two weeks out giving your tresses time to settle and look more natural, this also allows you time for any touch ups prior to your “I Do’s”. Brides that need grey coverage should plan their final color about three days out.
For highlights plan seven to ten days out and focus on three key areas: face frame, crown, and ends, sticking to three to five shades lighter or darker than your natural color will give you a great natural glowing flow of color.
Lastly, take care of your color and follow your colorists advice to the letter. Protect your hair from the sun with a hat or scarf and NO SWIMMING especially in chlorinated water, especially if you’re a blonde. Invest in quality product to protect your color, after all of the time and money you’ve invested in achieving your dream color now is not the time to go drugstore cheap.
