Bridal Beauty Timeline-The Final Countdown

Pro-tips to help you be the most beautiful you on your most beautiful day.

It’s never to late to start a good skin care routine and your wedding day is a good motivator to start some great new habits to take care of your skin for your wedding day and beyond.  If you’re a regular reader of our blog, then you’ve heard me say this a million times… GOOD SKIN AND GOOD COLOR GO HAND IN HAND!  If you don’t have a regular beauty regimen in place now we have some tips here to get you started from head-to-toe to make those beauty decisions a little easier.

Makeup isn’t a miracle and overtime a good skin care routine can change your programmed cells to become stronger, less hyper pigmented and help you achieve that smooth “sanded” surface.  Look at the wall next to you. See its texture? I can paint the wall aka your face, any color. Blue, purple, yellow- it doesn’t matter- the texture of the wall aka your face will still come through the makeup. For the “paint” to be smooth, we must change the texture of that wall.

When to start?  Planning at least 6-month’s in advance is a good rule of thumb… if you don’t have that long, then NOW is the time!  I also have some favorite products that I shared earlier this year to see my picks read more about them here.

Starting from the inside what you’re eating may be ruining your face.  Before your reach for that second cookie (or pour another glass of wine), consider this: Your diet may be affecting more than your weight and health, it could be ruining your skin, too. A diet rich in sugars and nitrates can lead to blemished skin and puffiness.

No matter what your skin type is—oily, dry, normal or a combo— it craves water. Foods such as oily fish, sweet potatoes, avocado, nuts and seeds also offer skin boosting benefits.   If you want to dig deeper into how foods affect your skin here’s a great read for you titled “Younger Skin Starts in the Gut” available on Amazon.

For your hair, now is NOT the time for impulsive decisions!  You’ve probably already spent some time planning for your look for your hair

Now is the time for some TLC, if you haven’t had a trim in some time now is a great time to start with a fresh healthy cut.  Next, take some time once a month to de-stress your hair with a vitamin rich deep conditioning treatment to repair and mend your ends and give them an extra boost.

Once a week, give your hair a break from the heat and products (including shampoo) and for those of you that are daily heat users (blow dyers or irons) be sure to protect your locks with heat styling protection to replenish moisture and defend against splitting and frizz.

Skin care goes beyond the face and you don’t want to wait until the day before or day of your wedding to wax or spray tan.   Wax monthly, exfoliate from head to toe weekly and moisturize daily!  Consider treating yourself to a spa day for some polishing or waxing those areas you just can’t DIY like the back or a Brazilian waxing all while taking in the benefits of some extra pampering.

Don’t forget those hands and feet!  Schedule a mani/pedi once a month to keep your hands in picture perfect condition to show off your engagement ring and if you’ll be wearing a special peep-toe shoe you’ll be kicking up your heels for plenty of photos too.  Use a foot scrub weekly to sluff of the dead skin and keep your heels smooth and get in the habit of using hydrating hand lotion throughout the day.

For your eyes & brows prevent those dark circles and puffiness with plenty of sleep, water and above all remove your makeup before you go to sleep.  If you’re prone to puffiness try using a cool compress once or twice a week and steer clear of the salty foods.  Framing those beautiful baby blues (browns or greens) with perfectly shaped brows is a must.  If you’re not sure if waxing or threading is the best choice for you then read “Brows… Wax or Thread?” to learn everything you need to know about both.

Pucker up and take care of those lips for the most important KISS of the day, tackle chapped/cracked lips with a vitamin-e stick daily and try a sugar scrub once a week. AND don’t forget to hydrate!  Be sure to check out our 5 tips for a perfect pout to make your lip color last all day.

Don’t forget the neck and decollate!  Your wedding dress will not doubt reveal a little (or a lot) of this neglected and often overlooked part of your body.  This thinner and fragile skin requires some extra special care.  Try using a gentle facial scrub once or twice a week and moisturize twice a day when you apply or remove your makeup.  This will help ensure a photo perfect finish of your airbrushing on your wedding day.  Learn more about airbrushing here.
