Pro-tips to help you be the most beautiful you on your most beautiful day.
Without a doubt your wedding day will be your most photographed day in your lifetime. Hair and makeup need to be absolute perfection!
Split ends can make any hairstyle look frayed and frazzled so we’ve gathered our top tips to prevent and tame dreaded split ends so you can achieve that perfect bridal look you’re looking for.
You’ ll notice I didn’t use the word repair, There are hundreds perhaps thousands of products on the market that claim to be able to repair split ends, so let’s dis-spell that myth right now, no matter what you try split ends cannot be repaired.
You should not hear any ripping or tearing or feel any pulling if you are brushing your hair properly. Avoid brushing your hair when it is wet, wet hair is particularly susceptible to damage. Use a flat brush and work your way from end to root gently in small sections. Wet hair exception, If your hair is super curly try working in a de-tangler and using a wide tooth comb while your hair is wet and again working from end to root.
Chill out when it comes to heat
Washing your hair with hot water can be as damaging to your hair as hot tools. When hot water hits your hair the cuticle swells, much like how your pores open on your skin when you use hot water. Washing your hair in lukewarm water and rinse your hair with cold water to close the cuticle, sealing your hair’s outer layer, and preventing split ends.
Blow drying, curling and flat irons zap your hair of moisture. As often as possible allow your hair to air dry, doing so will help minimize brittleness and breakage. When you do need to use those hot tools use a heat protection product first. Additionally, using your hair dryer on a cooler setting will help gently dry your hair without the excessive heat.
Condition and Hydrate
Just like your skin, your hair needs hydration from the inside as well as from product. Drink lots of water and eat right! Water hydrates and rids our bodies of toxins keeping our hair and skin healthy and moisturized. Eating more naturally hydrating fruits and veggies (super foods) will help strengthen your hair from the inside.
Take some time once a month to de-stress your hair with a vitamin rich deep conditioning treatment to repair and mend your ends and give them an extra boost.
Once a week, give your hair a break from the heat and products (including shampoo) and for those of you that are daily heat users (blow dyers or irons) be sure to protect your locks with heat styling protection to replenish moisture and defend against splitting and frizz.
When it comes to product less is more. Investing in quality concentrated products will give you lasting results without having to use insane amounts of product that weighs down your hair. Avoid products containing silicone, silicone blocks out necessary nutrients and robs your hair of needed nourishment.
Let it flow
Avoid using rubber bands and clips to keep your hair at bay… pulling your hair into a pony tail may be the easy fix but it actually causes damage (especially while it’s wet).
Get a trim
Hands off! Don’t pick at your split ends. If you haven’t had a trim in some time now is a great time to start with a fresh healthy cut. You’re not changing your style and you needn’t worry about losing length if you get your hair professionally trimmed on a regular basis. Trimming the ends will remove dead weight from your hair and actually add some body and volume.
I hope you find these tips useful and that they set you on a course for overall good hair care for your wedding day and every day.
