Antonette & Donnie A Love Story filled with family and friends

This story was originally published by our very dear friends and vendor we love “The Emerics!”  It’s the love story of Antonette & Donnie.  Their love story started with a blind date that according to Antonette went “amazingly well”  followed by a Valentines flower delivery that went “horribly wrong” but in the end made perfect!   It’s so refreshing to see truly happy people!

Planning a destination wedding always has it’s unique challenges which is why it is more important than ever to work with local professional vendors to bridge the global gap.  We truly enjoyed meeting Antonette and being a part of this gorgeous wedding at the Fireside Lounge at the Aria.  Their day was filled with lots of little details that made every nuance a memory for both the happy couple and their guests.

Please see below the original post from Jessie & Jason and all of the INCREDIBLE moments they captured.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Destination Wedding in America’s Playground

Lindsey Jones and Mike Zank hail from Auburn, New York and chose the Excalibur in Las Vegas to host their dream Vegas wedding. This couple choose Las Vegas as their city of choice to get married because of the true love and uniqueness of our city. A place where one can come and be free to choose anything they want to eat, do, stay and play.  Las Vegas is truly America’s playground.

Our love story is very unique to simplify, we usually joke and say we met on Craigslist or a bar lol.
In reality he was actually married to my next door neighbor/childhood friend. Sadly she passed away after her death I was in contact with him to be able to be around there daughter. Although there was an initial attraction to each other he never wanted me to be a rebound and they eventually moved from Michigan to Nevada. Eventually we just knew I needed to make the move too. In a way I feel it was fate that put us together we both attempted to date others and even him being gone for several years some of which we didn’t talk, yet we still ended up together.”

We know it’s met to be although we drive each other nuts and are opposite In every way when were together it just makes sense. He purposed on New Years Eve we were staying at a hotel and he got the microphone from the DJ asked and they played us our first song.

Over the past few months we’ve had a chance to get know Lindsey through Instagram and Facebook. Such a great way for Makeup in the 702 to get to know their clients prior to the wedding day. She has praised our work time and time again and now has had the opportunity to write her own words a praise on Wedding Wire through a review.

“I loved working with Megan and the girls of Make up in the 702. Megan was very easy to contact and I love how she followed up on my experience with a personal phone call. Annie and Chrystal arrived early and were very professional yet friendly. I typically don’t wear make up and my mom in particular was worried about me looking over done however Annie did an amazing job of giving me a natural look while making me look stunning at the same time. My hair was equally as amazing Crystal did a wonderful job. My only regret was that I couldn’t take the girls back with me to Michigan to do my hair and makeup for me reception.”
I asked Lindsey what words of advice she has for planning bride and simply stated she said- “Choose Makeup in the 702 if your getting married in Las Vegas, especially if it’s 115 degrees”. What a doll- we love you!

DIY Bridal Shower With A Little Help From My Friends

August 18, 2015

Picture3First and foremost I must admit I am no planner or event stylist but planning this bridal shower was so much fun I just may rethink my career. Just kidding!  I could not have done it without a little help from my friends!  Photographer Matthew Schenk from MPlace Productions, Kathryn Starrett, Catering Director, Siena Golf Club,   Tiffany Scheree Jones from Peridot Sweets, Cake and favors, Flowers from Trader Joes and of course hair and makeup for the beautiful bride to be from Makeup in the 702, favors from Williams Sonoma Designer and of course the wonderful staff at the Siena Golf Club.

A few months ago we blogged about Kylie and Jace’s engagement session with Mackenzie Taylor. Today I’m here to share Kylie’s bridal shower.

Since their wedding is in Pensacola, Florida and of course we are in the desert, I wanted to bring a bit of the beach to them with the table design and decor for the room. My inspiration for the color scheme came from the goldfish which when I started planning I knew would be the main focal point.

I accented the table with white flowers, skipping stones and orange candles to carry along the orange theme. Of course this theme was carried through on the gift table, cake table and the brunch buffet.

Throughout the planning process Kathryn kept in contact with me always willing to lend advice and a helping hand. During setup no only did she help but offered glass wear, cake stand and valuable advice to help keep my vision in line.

Thank you to all that helped make Kylie’s day as success! Stayed dialed in for Kylie & Jace’s wedding premiering in late September. Until then you can see all of us including Kylie at the Bridal Spectacular bridal show on August 21 and 22 at Cashman center. Makeup in the 702 will be sponsoring the hair and makeup for the fashion show and showing the latest trends for your wedding day. See you there booth #533!

Summer is engagement season and wedding season is in full swing in Las Vegas.  This time of year is always a thrill for us as we gear up for the Bridal Specular  on August 21 and 22.  We get to meet so many planning couples this time year and get to hear so many great love stories so now is the perfect time for us to pause to take a look at a real life wedding. These photos are amazing and tell a story in and of themselves, they also remind us of the reason all of us at Makeup in the 702 do what we do!  No one tells a great love story better than a blushing beautiful bride here’s what Denise shared with us about her day and her groom.

We met on Match.com 7 months ago and have been inseparable ever since…we knew we were perfect for each other in the first few weeks and knew we were meant to be…he proposed under a tree, at our favorite park surrounded by fireflies…

We wouldn’t have gotten married any other way…he had always said if he got married, it’d be in Vegas, by Elvis and that was exactly what I wanted!  The helicopter was a double bonus to boot!!!  We had so much fun, even we couldn’t believe how awesome it was.

My advice to couples is: if you’re gonna get married, elope!!! Do the wedding for yourselves and no one else. It is YOUR day and it should be fun and stress free!!! If you want to include family and friends in your happiness, celebrate throwing a party for them later…

If you’re planning your day please stop by our booth #533 at the Bridal Spectacular on August 21 & 22 we’d love to meet you and hear your love story!

Las Vegas Photography “Shoot Out”

When you pause to think about how technology has changed our world in just the last twenty years you probably wouldn’t think that it has affected hair and makeup artistry much but you would be surprised.

As a makeup artist I’ve always tried to maintain my education and stay updated with products, tools, training, and techniques. However, over the past 20 years technology in the actual camera has changed tremendously. The days of “pancake makeup” and 35 millimeter cameras and darkroom are almost obsolete.   So how does an old dog learn new tricks and stay current?  Join the national ordination of PUG. PUG stands for Pictage Users Group and the Las Vegas Chapter was spear headed by the lovely Chelsea Nicole of Chelsea Nicole photography.

This group of professional photographers, now 150+ has so graciously allowed me, a makeup artist, to join their group so I can learn right along side with them.

The organization hosts a monthly meeting with its members that is over 150 strong where they discuss the latest photography and business topics, host guest speakers, and just have fun.  I absolutely love that this group of men and women are so open to sharing and educating each other to elevate the level of work produced here in Las Vegas.

groupshot_chelseanicole1

Each year PUG holds a “shoot out” where Chelsea Nicole organizes a theme, location and of course style along with education for photographers. This year the shoot out was hosted by Alt f studios, John Michael cooper, Dalisa Cooper, and Chris Purdum of Orange Soda Photo.  Different lighting workstations were set up for the photographers to utilize learning the best lighting techniques for both indoors and out.   Makeup in the 702 was asked to join the learning experience to incorporate the hair and makeup for the models in the different lighting stations.

I asked john Michael cooper of Alt f photography why he gives so much to the organization and his words were “if I help others and give them an education I give them an inspiration to become better and continue to make Las Vegas a sought after photography market”. Wow john wow!!!

I could go on and on and on about how truly AMAZING this group of professional is and how being a member has helped Makeup In The 702 remain an industry leader here in Las Vegas….  but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words!  So please take a moment to browse the galleries below and enjoy the best of the best photos from the workshop all submitted by Chelsea Nicole herself!

When Passion Drives You Grab The Wheel!

biopic1_1366756121As we congratulate the class of 2015 we wish them well and much success in life. High school for most of us is where we started to develop our own ideals and passions that have shaped our lives. This week we met up with Kristen Hansen from KMH Photography this week who tells us high school is where it all started for her. As a member of her high school’s photography club she would spend countless hours perfecting her black and white prints and began experimenting with techniques and discovering her passion for image making. Following college she began shooting weddings and portraits for friends and family, in 2009 she took her passion and created KMH Photography which has really allowed her to find her style, her artistic voice and discover what fulfills her.

I get to work with so many incredibly amazing Las Vegas photographers and am always curious to know what makes it real for them.  Kristen tells us “I adore capturing real moments – real hugs, real tears, real glances, real belly laughs. During each and every wedding, my focus remains on creating memories for the couple. I want my couples to relive the crazy range of emotions they felt on their wedding day – from the nerves to the relief to the pure joy to the teary moments. If I can make them emotional over their images, I consider it a job well done. At the end of the day, that’s what makes this business the most fulfilling. I really have the best job in the world – I get to create art for a living, deliver it to clients who treasure it, and create lasting friendships with really cool people. “

kmh-6

I imagine that you get to work with many other makeup artists in Las Vegas what makes working with Makeup In the 702 different for you?

“Working with Makeup in the 702 is a dream – your stylists and artists are super professional and truly know what they are doing. As a photographer, makeup and hair is so important. You have to trust that their face won’t be a different shade than their neck, that their eyelashes won’t fall off, and that their hair won’t be windblown after being outside for an hour. If I know Makeup in the 702 is working a wedding with me, I know that the bride will be stunning and her hair and makeup will last for hours.”
kmh-8

Las Vegas is the “wedding capital” of the world what would you like a planning couple to know about you and your business?

“I love shooting portraits and weddings in Las Vegas and love traveling to destination locations as well. My packages are all customizable and all include digital hi-res edited images. If you’re not sure how many hours you need or how to plan your wedding day photography, not to fear! I always help my brides create a custom timeline and recommend however many hours work best for them. Just email me at info@kmh-photography.com or call me at 702-285-9588 and I’ll be happy to help!”

kmh-2

It seems that there are so many choices for wedding photography these days what are some common misconceptions that you encounter in your industry?

“One misconception is that photographers are all alike. We all have our own style, personality, technique and method. I’d encourage couples to look online, pick out their favorite portfolios and meet with those photographers in person. Your photographer is going to be with you just as much as your bridal party on your wedding day – it’s important that you mesh with them and feel comfortable around them.” For me personally, I take great pride in connecting with my clients. I want to know them, what they like and who they are. By understanding them and their relationship, I’m able to create better images of them and take their likes and dislikes into account. Having a great relationship with my clients really takes my work to the next level and helps me create some beautiful memories for them.
kmh-7

Every photographer finds their inspiration in different places, are there particular elements or places that inspire your creativity?

“I find inspiration in all sorts of ways! I love art, music, and films. I look at a set of wedding, art and design blogs daily to keep up on any new trends and make sure I’m feeding my creative side. I also love nature and travel, discovering new places always leads to a spark of photo inspiration and an idea of a styled shoot.”

kmh-4

Thank you so much for spending time with us Kristen! Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers today?

(Smiling) “I’ve already been so wordy!  If you need any more info, just let me know!”

It Takes A Team To Build A Dream

indexCongratulations on your engagement!  Now what! It’s time to build a team!!  Today we have some AMAZING photos for you from Alt F. Photography of the team Rebecca & Ross put together for their dream day!

Staring with the dress! Absolute layers of lovely from Vera Wang.  Who says you have to go with traditional white shoes these days?  Rebecca chose these stunning royal blue beauties from Manolo Blahnik a perfect choice! I do just love the simplicity of Rebecca’s bouquet of white roses from Naakiti floral.

Rebecca and Ross chose the Bellagio Hotel and Casino for their venue.  Perhaps one of our personal favorites!  Using wedding services provided for by the hotel streamlined many options for the planning couple such as arranging for the cake and linen coordination.

Last, but certainly not least on the list of incredible vendors coordinated for this wedding is yours truly Makeup In The 702.  As your makeup artist and your hair stylist are generally the first vendor the bride works with on her day we take that responsibility very seriously as we often set the tone for the others for the day.  Rebecca was just an absolute joy to work with.

Using a wedding coordinator, especially if you are a destination bride can really help relieve the stress of it all.  Rebecca and Ross chose Andrea Eppolito Events. As you can see there day turned out picture perfect!

Additional wedding vendors chosen by Rebecca & Ross included:
Something New (Videography)
DJ Mike Fox & Company

Destination Happily Ever After

Planning a wedding is an emotional and stressful life event.  We want so many people to share our joy and happiness with us.  Like many planning couples the story of Kelly & Angela is the same.  Today we bring you the story of Kelly & Angela a destination wedding couple from Vancouver,BC.

Quote from their wedding blog
Feb 2013 to Oct 2014-Planning commences for the event of the YEAR! The wedding! The wedding that everyone wanted to come to and see “two chicks” get hitched. What started as a 150 person local wedding on Granville Island to a rustic 80 person event at the family cabin to a quick getaway to the Vancouver Island….the final decision was made when Nevada legalized same sex unions. They jumped at the opportunity and decided to elope with just close friends and family by their side in Las Vegas.

It all began with friendship and workplace camaraderie in the Surrey Emergency Dept 6 1/2 years ago.  Their friendship developed over attending numerous after hour events, a mini vacation to Penticton and working long night shifts together.  Over the years they traveled to many cities together; Las Vegas, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville and Los Angeles to name a few.  They renovated a house to build a place to call home together, experienced joy and hardships together and discovered how easy it was to love and be loved.

Which brings us to today! Makeup in the 702 had the pleasure of being a small part of this love story and we are so grateful to have met this wonderful couple. No one can express their experience with us better than those we have had the pleasure of working with. Here’s an excerpt from a review submitted by Angela & Kelly regarding their experience with the Makeup in the 702 team.

WOW!!! I don’t know where to begin. I choose Makeup in the 702 for my wedding day as I loved their portfolio as well as their amazing competitive rates. Megan was very professional from the start to end. The communication was amazing. As a destination bride from Vancouver BC, I was unable to do a trial run for hair and makeup…So I had a lot riding on them! They were my first vendors of the day and not going to lie, my heart was racing. I opened the door to my hotel room and to my surprise I was greeted by Megan, Crystal and Kiera (I was only expecting Crystal and Kiera). Megan immediately calmed my nerves but telling me she “couldn’t miss being a part of my special day”…From that point on I felt like a princess. Having an extra stylist was great as my sister decided last minute to get her hair done….She was ecstatic and loved the final product. I can’t stress enough how amazing these women were, they never made me feel rushed, they were so pleasant and engaging to be around.

These ladies are the real deal!!!! They know their stuff and work with your chosen look for the day. I’ve had my hair and makeup done before and never have I looked so good. Rates are amazing!!!! Pricing was all inclusive and it  included full makeup application, false lashes, hair styling, extensions and my own take away lipstick….not to forget my partner had her makeup done too all for that price.

I could go on and on and on! Thank you ladies for making us look amazing on my special day…….

Thank you Kelly & Angela for choosing us to be a part of your day!  We wish you a lifetime of happiness and joy!  Cheers and congratulations!

Orange Soda Photography The “Pop n Fizz” in Photography

May 15, 2015

Can I just start by saying how much fun it is to work with Orange Soda Photography!  Chris and Alicia are as cool as an ice cold orange soda on a hot summer day.  They make you forget you are even at work.  During a photoshoot there is little time to really get to know the backstory of all of the incredible people we get to work with in Las Vegas so we are truly grateful today to be able to share a little bit with you about Chris and Alicia from Orange Soda Photography.

I asked Chris and Alicia to share a little bit about their business and a memorable experience they have had with Makeup in the 702 and this is what they had to say.

We are a husband and wife team here at Orange Soda Photo. We both owned our own photography business before we met. We met at a wedding show in 2008 and it was true love at first sight. We knew we belonged together so we immediately combined our businesses and Orange Soda Photography was born. Photography is all we do, and we have a great passion for the field of photography, continually trying to improve our knowledge and skill.

We have had the privilege of working often with Make Up in the 702, however, one of our most memorable experiences together was when we used Make Up in the 702 for our own maternity session. We are so accustomed to working together on events, that it was an awesome experience to be the one being pampered. They did an incredible job on Alicia’s hair and make up, and only solidified even more why we love them so much.”

What would you like a planning couple to know about Orange Soda Photography?

We love everything we do. For us, every aspect of this is positive. We get to meet cool and fun people who are excited about their wedding, or their creative portrait or family session. We get to photograph and experience people coming together to celebrate and share with each other and then we get to edit those images and deliver them to excited people who always love their images. How can you not love doing something like that?”

Do you think people have misconceptions about professional photography?

The most common misconception is that people think they’re not photogenic, when in reality is has more to do with the photographer, lighting and posing than the subject.

One of the statements we often hear is usually a variation of “I really don’t like my photo being taken” or I don’t look good in photographs”. We overcome that by engaging ourselves into the situation, we never see people as a job. We see the actual people with their own stories and backgrounds and bring that personality out. It’s one of the things we love, being part of the human experience on some of the happiest days of people’s lives.”

What are some of the benefits of choosing Orange Soda Photography?

A truly positive experience and photographs that aren’t like the norm, but still tell the story without being dated. We both started in film photography in the 80s and carry much of that over today. We’ve been photographing people since 1986 in one form or another and you don’t keep doing that unless you absolutely love what you’re doing. Chris started with his camera in the Army in Central America and Alicia traveled Europe and the US with her SLR and 3D cameras and combined we bring a set of experiences like few have.”

You’ve been doing this a long time, where do you two find your inspiration?

We find inspiration everywhere, but two favorites are high fashion and film noir. Chris’s grandfather worked in the movie industry during the depression as a cameraman, and that’s definitely carried over. Alicia often finds inspiration in the joy of family life and the strong bonds it brings.”

Any final thoughts for our readers?

Every time we see that Makeup in the 702 is the MUAH for a wedding or shoot, we’re so happy because we know that our brides will be well taken care of, and will look truly amazing.”

Awwww now you have me blushing like a bride…. thank you so much for sharing with us today.
