Airbrush makeup.

In the past decade the phrase “Airbrush”has been misused as many times as “All Natural” at the grocery store. I’ve seen everything from infomercials with celebrities to aerosol cans filled with “airbrush” foundation.  I can only speak about the tools, training and products we use at Makeup in the 702 but with more than 15 years experience in the industry-here is what you need to know.

Airbrushing refers to not only to the application of foundation, but the physical
formulation of the foundation as well. To help get a better understanding of what your getting or in some instances paying for, ask your artist what type of compressor they use and if they use actual airbrush foundation.

The ONLY airbrush compressor that gives the PSI an artist needs to achieve an even and non-streak coverage is Iwata. Dinar and infomercial devises don’t have the airflow needed for smooth, even coverage. They’re also not made for commercial use so are likely to break and stop working when the motor gets hot from extended daily use. Certainly not what you want on your wedding day!! Foundations also need to be made specifically for an airbrush compressor. All to often I see inexperienced makeup artists use a traditional foundation and “base it down” with water or some other fluid in an attempt to make it thin enough to pump through the compressor. First, when liquid is added to foundation it’s chemical composition is changed. This causes the inexperienced artist to use several “layers” to get the end result look needed for photos. Hence what should be weightless has now become the feeling of a pancake on a clients skin. Even coverage is gone and any texture on the skin becomes exaggerated and glaring.

For an artist the tools and training to perform quality airbrushing services for a client are an on going cost. In fact, very expensive cost. However, at Makeup in the 702 we will stop at nothing to provide quality, long lasting end result looks. For the client the end result of airbrushed skin is priceless.

Benefits of Airbrush:

  • Custom blend your color on the spot
  • Coverage for face, neck, check, arms and back (1/2 body)
  • 15 hour coverage
  • Non transferable
  • Withstands the heat of the Las Vegas desert

Custom wedding airbrush makeup

What airbrush can’t do is change the texture of your skin. No makeup can do that and an artist should not make such promises. Take a look at the wall next to you, do you see the texture? I can paint that wall blue, black, purple or green and the texture will still come through. If I want to change the texture of the wall I need to sand it or change it prior to painting.   Consumers and artists alike have been sold by the cosmetic industry that a primer will change the texture of the skin. That is in fact not true. The only way to change the texture of the skin is with skincare and injectables, and even at that, the change in texture is only temporary. Some primers can help traditional foundations hold longer but in my opinion they really are just another layer and should not be used in conjunction with airbrush.

Peridot Sweets- A Sweet Gem In Sin City

Picture8Oh my do I have a sweet treat for you this week! This week I am so excited to introduce you to a vendor we love! Peridot Sweets! For those of you that may not know Peridot is a well-known and ancient gemstone. The Lime green precious gemstones increase prosperity and happiness and  bring an increase of love, joy, good health which makes Peridot Sweets the PERFECT choice for any celebration.

Come along with me today to the sunny shores of Peppermint Bay and learn a little bit more about this precious gem and Tiffany Sheree Jones from Peridot Sweets.

When we think of cakes for special occasions perhaps the most important cake you’ll ever choose is your wedding cake. Tiffany, what would you like planning couples to know about Peridot Sweets?

“We don’t use shortenings or trans fats in our items. Only real butter, real whipped cream….no margarine or shortenings or fake oil based whipped toppings. We can offer gluten-free cake for special orders, as well as vegetarian (no eggs), and sometimes, vegan (orders placed well in advance, and also knowing that vegan items do require margarine/shortening/whipped topping).

We also like to work closely with the couples and hope that they trust us to create a design for them based on their style. Pinterest is great for inspiration, but we find that the cakes come out more beautifully when we aren’t micromanaged on design.”

The artistry of cake design has become a phenomenon with tons of television exposure to your industry what do you think some of the common misconceptions are about your services?

“We get clients in all the time that want to choose their wedding cake or custom cake design straight out of a catalog. Sometimes, the first thing they ask is for a catalog of cakes with pricing. To me, this takes the “custom” out of the cake. I want to create a cake together, not choose it out of a magazine or out of our gallery of cakes we have done. Most of the cakes on our Instagram or website have only been made that one time for that one client (we have had a few repeats, but in general, we like the couples to have a more unique experience). Also, sometimes clients compare their friends’ pricing to theirs: “My friend ordered a cake from you and her 2-tier was only $xxx, why is mine $yyy?” There are different elements that increase pricing; for example, a chevron tier will cost more than a polka dot tier, or a hand painted tier with 10 colors will cost more than a hand painted tier with just one color.”

What are the benefits of choosing Peridot Sweets?

“Clients get a cake that is moist, flavorful, and not too sweet. The cakes taste as good as they look (a common complaint…we find that people are always saying either the cake looks good or tastes good, not both). We promise you will get both.”

Like many artists I’m sure you have some of your own favorite bakers and cake designers that have inspired and influenced your style and technique who are some of your influences and where do you find your inspiration for the next one of a kind design?

“Design-wise, I love Martha Stewart weddings and The Caketress. Flavor-wise, I love what I personally like to eat (chocolate with variations of nuts and peanuts). Also, my clients inspire me…I tell them that if we don’t have a flavor profile available, let us know and we can do a custom flavor.”

I can’t tell you how much I absolutely adore all of your work and we could probably chat for hours on end however, as we wrap up today is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

“It’s your wedding, make it just that: yours! Don’t be afraid to offer fun wedding cake flavors. People will rave about your cake when you dare to take a risk!”
