I Love You a BRUNCH!!!

July 25, 2017

Comments Closed

Recently we have seen two of our very favorite things coming together to create a new fun bridal trend- WEDDING BRUNCH!!!

While there are SO many things to love about morning wedding celebrations and the breakfast and brunch receptions to follow, here are some of our favorite things about the fabulous new brunch wedding trend-

COFFEE

Whether you set up a cute little coffee and tea cart for your guests to pour them selves a cup as they walk into the ceremony or you opt to replace the now classic cupcake or candy bar with a Coffee and Donut Bar – the caffeine consideration is sure to be appreciated by friends and family during a morning celebration!

CASUAL ATIRE

By having your wedding celebration in the first 1/2 of the day, you open up more casual options for the bride and groom as well as the guests.

A shorter hem-line, a little bit of poof, some embroidered flowers and of course ruffles are perfect for a morning wedding.

CAKE

Whether it’d donuts, crepes, muffins or pancake, there is just something about pastries and yummy treats at a Sunday brunch that just seems to make the whole world seem sweeter.  And isn’t that just the perfect vibe for a wedding too?!

An adorable stack of pancakes topped with fresh fruit works great as a passed nibble for when the guests arrive to the reception after the ceremony.

Donuts- one of the most casual and unassuming breakfast foods is given an elegant upgrade with a bit of pink icing and decorated with roses and babies breath.

As some one with an unabashed sweet tooth, have to say that this is for sure my favorite part of a beautiful brunch wedding……all the options for a cake!!!

AVOCADO TOAST and DEVILED EGGS

Ok, Ok……so I didn’t actually see these listed on any Why Brunch Weddings Are Great articles or witness it at any of the beautiful celebrations we have worked with….but how perfect are they for a fun & classy breakfast at a wedding?!?!?!?!

If you are a frequent enjoyer of brunches in your day-to-day life, you will for sure know that avocado toast is pretty much the business at the moment. It can be visually impressive as well as versatile and healthy, and while I know those last two are not always the goal for a wedding menu- they are certainly added bonuses!!

And keeping in tune with the versatility tone of avocado toast- deviled eggs meet the mark as well. They are also an easy and inexpensive way to feed the masses and from little kiddos to grand parents, pretty much guarantee a smile on every ones face.

COST SAVINGS

Because brunch and breakfast happens in the morning and also likely a Sunday, the price of the venue alone will be significantly less than if you booked on the more popular (and expensive) Friday or Saturday afternoon and evening.

While its not nearly as exciting to talk about or as fun as it is decide “donuts vs. waffles”, one of the realities of day time brunch wedding is that it could be a significant savings.

Kathryn & Alex 3

We were so lucky to get a change to meet Katheryn at

the Makeup In The 702 Studio before her engagement shoot at The Smith Center with the incredibly talented Kristen from KMH Photography this past spring.

It was so exciting to have Kristen share the images of Katheryn and Alex’s gorgeous wedding at Lake Las Vegas and we are pleased to share them with you!!

Kathryn & Alex 1

The beautiful bride and her equally lovely brides maids toast to all the fun and excitement the day holds for them.

It was such a good time to be able to spend the early part of the day with these sweet ladies. The love they have for their friend Katheryn and the enthusiasm for her wedding day was really special to see.

Kathryn & Alex 4

A sweet moment between the bride and her adoring father in the equally dreamy gardens at Lake Las Vegas.

Kathryn & Alex 2

The beautifully manicured gardens of The Hilton LLV set such a perfect romantic setting for Kathryn and Alex’s first look that almost hard to believe it’s in the desert.

Kathryn & Alex 8 Kathryn & Alex

The bridesmaids in their navy blue and the grooms men donned in black tie were the epitome of elegance.

Kathryn & Alex 6

The chapel at the venue provided an intimate location for Kathryn and Alex to exchange their vows in front of a family and friends.

The entire Makeup In The 702 Team wishes the both of them a life time of happiness!!

Last year we were lucky enough to work with international cosmetic and beauty power house COVERGIRL for their national conference and product launch event. It was one of the highlights of our year and it got me looking a bit deeper into the company and their history.

1-27-covergirl-2

Any one who knows me, can totally attest- I jump at the opportunity to dive into an online research project!!

Look at this “lovely”, vintage 9 hour “eye polish” ad!?

Below is a collection of some of the fun vintage adds as well as some of the exciting new brand ambassadors the company has welcomed.

Something that really stood out to me while I was reading up on COVERGIRL was its long standing practice of diversity and inclusion.  For decades they have celebrated beauty in all its shapes, shades and colors.

1-27-covergirl-3 1-27-covergirl-1

The brand broke ground and shook the foundation (hehe makeup pun totally intended) of the cosmetic industry in late 2016 by announcing that makeup artist James Charles would be the companies first male spokes model.

1-27-covergirl-4

Another big win for inclusion in the industry was when the company also brought on Muslim beauty blogger Nura Afia to the team.

Another celebration and example that extraordinary beauty is found all across the globe.

A New Found Love of IKEA

ikea

In the last 6 weeks I have planned and implemented a move to a new studio, a move to a new house and several fabulous get togethers. This busy fall schedule and the recent opening of the new IKEA in Las Vegas has us loving all things Scandinavian and sleek for the season. Here’s a collection of some of the bits we’ve come to love.

rotera-lantern

Rotera Lanterns

Lanterns ($4 each) hung from a tree set such a romantic tone for a sophisticated garden party or backyard bon fire. Inside, they can be lined up along a dining table with spider webs and candles would be perfect for a spooky Halloween set up, and could be transformed with a bit of greenery for Christmas.

Alseda Stoolasleda

With this versatile feature, it can be hard to know if taking a seat in the back yard, setting your cocktail down for a moment or kicking your feet up is more appropriate.

Visionar Hanging Decorations ikea-3

Hang various sizes of these classic paper pompoms ($5 each) give the space dimension. If using outdoors in holiday decor or for a night wedding, wrap with white lights and garland.

IKEA PS Cabinet

This industrial piece works well in a house as a buffet or sideboard, but is also ideal in an office for files and supplies. The sleek lines and industrial appearance provide a really lovely contrast to some softer materials and elements, line luxurious cushions and house plants that are often found in the home.

screen-shot-2016-10-19-at-11-22-32-am

Blomster Candle Holders ikea-4

With elegance and ease, these candle holders ($16 for set of 3) will add height and drama to a table scape or mantle alike. Like many of the lighting options found in that blue and yellow nirvana that is IKEA, these candles have so many uses that they are just perfect for- from wedding decorations to setting a warm and romantic tone on a patio.

While we could joyously spend a whole day wandering from room to room in that lovely warehouse, and every time we go in there a new favorite is spotted, these are just a few at the top of our current list.

For more brilliant inspiration on how to incorporate IKEA into your wedding decor check out this lovely post at Tailored Fit Photography. And the always delightful Brit + Co. has some clever uses as well.

Meet Fashion Photographer Richard Julio

Taking a little side step from weddings this week it is our pleasure to introduce you to fashion photographer Richard Julio.
Welcome Richard!  To get started can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience working with Makeup In The 702?
“I am a nationally published fashion and portrait photographer based in Las Vegas Nevada, specializing in both commercial fashion and professional headshots for models, actors and corporate professionals. As a fashion photographer, I need to be able to rely on my entire team to be prepared for anything. My friends at Makeup in the 702 are always prepared for anything and can pull off whatever I or my client needs. Working with other professionals also allows me to bounce ideas around to see what will work and what may not, having that experience to tap is key when on the job.”
Taylor Monochrome-034
What would you like potential client know about working with you?
“For any client I always recommend planning out your photo shoot. The best place to start is by asking these questions. What clothes are you going to wear? Will you need to buy anything, if so when and will you have it in time for the shoot? What types of shots do I want to photographer to definitely get?”
What are some of the misconceptions about your service?
“Lots of people nowadays think you can Photoshop anything. To some degree that is true, but the tradeoff is that fixing some things in post-production doesn’t look as good as getting it right in camera. How can a client be prepared, simple things like making sure clothes are ironed ahead of time and getting a good night’s rest before hand can really make a big difference so that you avoid looking tired with bags under your eyes. Professional hair and makeup styling is worth the investment as well. Having a professional makeup stylist that can blend, contour and cover up blemishes in invaluable in photography. In addition, a professionally done hair style will last longer and have more versatility throughout your shoot. When hair is properly dried, smoothed, or set; it has memory. That curl, volume, or sleekness will fall right back into place after clothing changes or action poses, or be able to easily be switched into a completely different look quickly. All these things are a great way to look your best and get the most out of your photos.”
What are the benefits of using your service?
“I work hard to produce high end images that look ready to be published in a magazine. That means you get stunning images and tailored customer service to fit your needs.”
Where do you find your inspiration?
“I find inspiration in many different genres of art such as movies, music, theater, painting, other types of photography etc. Most of my focus however is on the fashion industry, following what trends are popular or up and coming is important as a fashion photographer.”

Like many brides, when we first spoke with Paula about bridal hair and makeup, she shared with us that she wanted a natural and elegant look for her wedding day hair and makeup. Armed with that bit of information, her stylist Crystal, and makeup artist Kiera were able to get right to work creating her perfect look.
Picture3
Paula and Leshon held their ceremony in the chapel at Canyon Ridge Christian Church. The service was absolutely beautiful, full of personal touches and intimate details. The couple’s niece surprised them with a beautiful song while the bride walked down the aisle.  The couple’s nephew also sang a song while they braided the God Knot. The event was full of prayer, singing and plenty of happy happy tears.
Picture1 Picture2 Picture4
Following the ceremony the newlyweds and their bridal party headed over to Floyd Lamb Park for pictures. The incredibly talented photographers from Moxy Studio Photography and Cinema found a lovely, peaceful area overlooking one of the ponds that had beautiful, soft afternoon light. The bride’s bouquet, the boutonnieres and all the floral arrangements were put together by the always impressive Layers of Lovely.
After capturing some lovely moments at the park, the bridal party headed to the reception to get the party started!!! They arrived to the reception that was being held in a family member’s back yard where all their family and friends awaited them.  This was the happiest, friendliest and welcoming crowd we have met in a long time. From the moment we met Paula and the lovely ladies in her family and bridal party, to the heartfelt and personal touches in their wedding ceremony- the love and joy shared between Paula, Leshon, their family and friends was so visible and contagious to all who witnessed it.
Congratulations Paula and Leshon!!! Here’s to a life time of happiness and abundance.

Kylie & Jace Keep The Mission In Mind

October 23, 2015

We’ve been sharing the love story of Kylie and Jace with you since their engagement and we are SO very happy to share this chapter with you today! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! What a wonderful day it was so filled with love, family and joy. Now that Kylie has had a chance to catch her breath we asked her to share their planning experience with us, she has some really great tips for planning couples that we hope you find helpful if you’re planning your day.

“Our wedding was an absolute dream come true. From start to finish we both felt so surrounded with love and support that my heart and smile were bursting open the whole day.
Jace and I live in Las Vegas and were planning a wedding in Pensacola, FL, where we both grew up. At first glance this long distance project seemed a little daunting, and on several occasions it was mentioned (by other people) that we ditch it all and get married at a chapel down town- but once we figured out what was most important to us, all the detail fell into place.
We met during the summer of 2004, the week after we graduated high school. Since then it has been it has been a nonstop adventure- we love spending time with and visiting our friends and family that are scattered around the world, we love cooking and eating great food, we love dancing, traveling, laughing and are just generally laid back and light hearted folks by nature. Those were the things that we wanted the most at our wedding.
We wanted to spend our day, eating delicious local Southern food, sipping plenty of champagne and tasty brew, and dancing to good music in a beautiful place- all in the company of our favorite people. It was also very important for us to keep the costs and stress level as low as possible.
By keeping this mission in mind, when various costs, questions, problems or decisions came up it was easy to keep our focus.
We found out that the least expensive flowers available in the fall are white- we chose white flowers!!!
With several pregnant bridesmaids and a few with vastly different heights (5’1-6’0) it was impossible to find a dress every one was comfortable with- we picked a dress that could be worn 25 different ways!!!
Elaborate and intricate table decorations and place settings would have added hours of prep time and hundreds of dollars- we decided to keep set up and break down as simple as possible.

My advise to newly engaged couples planning a wedding would be to really think about the things that have been importation to you both leading up to the wedding.
Are you guys sci-fi buffs?
Do you share a love of fiction or poetry?
Do you have an artistic flair?
Is their a culture or tradition you want to honor and acknowledge?
Once you have a basic frame work of what you really value and what you want your experience to be, all the blogs, websites, inspiration boards, magazines and stores become a little less intimidating.
Because we live so far away from “home” and we both have family all over the country we knew that the biggest task would be getting all of the people who are special to us in the same place. We were so touched by how many of our loved ones made such an effort to share our new adventure with us.

Destination Vegas Tips from A Bride

October 9, 2015

Well here we are, one year later from one of our favorite couples ever. Sarah started following us Facebook more than a year from her wedding date and saw all of our before and after posts and 5 star reviews. Of course this makes anyone even more excited for their own wedding day. Even her mom and friends started following us to- by the time the day came we all felt like we were long lost friends reuniting.
Fast forward to the current date and we celebrate Sarah & Stephen’s 1 year anniversary. We took a moment to catch up with the happy couple to see what they’ve been doing.

Hi Megan!
Thanks so much for your lovely message!
We had such an amazing day with 30 of our fellow Brits, partying up and down The Strip on an open top double decker bus with Elvis after our ceremony and reception and Cili Restaurant.
The first year has been amazing and magical!
We had a fantastic two weeks honeymoon in Mexico and are excited to come back to Vegas this weekend to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary!
Thanks so much for being part of our day! Your girls really took care of us and your work was fantastic!
Sending lots of love, Sarah & Stephen O’Doherty xxx
Here are a few tips from Sarah for other destination brides.
“Do your research well to trust the people doing the planning for you, and don’t get stressed or fussed at the small details of the wedding. They won’t matter. Making memories away with your loved ones is way more important than making sure any chair covers match the bridesmaids”
“The only thing I wish I did different was have a different dress to change into late at night. 10 hours in a princess dress on the Las Vegas strip took its toll.  I defiantly needed a shorter party dress for the night. LOL”
“The one thing I wouldn’t change is the venue. Cili restaurant at Bali Hai was a total paradise. The staff, services and scenery were all unbeatable. And of course having Makeup in the 702 there for me and my family” xoxo
Happy Anniversary Sarah & Stephen, we hope to see you when you visit Las Vegas again!
