Last year we were lucky enough to work with international cosmetic and beauty power house COVERGIRL for their national conference and product launch event. It was one of the highlights of our year and it got me looking a bit deeper into the company and their history.

1-27-covergirl-2

Any one who knows me, can totally attest- I jump at the opportunity to dive into an online research project!!

Look at this “lovely”, vintage 9 hour “eye polish” ad!?

Below is a collection of some of the fun vintage adds as well as some of the exciting new brand ambassadors the company has welcomed.

Something that really stood out to me while I was reading up on COVERGIRL was its long standing practice of diversity and inclusion.  For decades they have celebrated beauty in all its shapes, shades and colors.

1-27-covergirl-3 1-27-covergirl-1

The brand broke ground and shook the foundation (hehe makeup pun totally intended) of the cosmetic industry in late 2016 by announcing that makeup artist James Charles would be the companies first male spokes model.

1-27-covergirl-4

Another big win for inclusion in the industry was when the company also brought on Muslim beauty blogger Nura Afia to the team.

Another celebration and example that extraordinary beauty is found all across the globe.

A Real Love Story- Ashley and Johnny

love-story-1-13-2

When we first chatted with Ashley over the phone last summer, she was just bubbling with love and excitement to celebrate her anniversary with her sweet Johnny. When she told us that they were married when they were just teenagers,  and that their love and devotion to one another has grown over the years we just had to share her sweet story.

My husband and I are traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate our 12 year anniversary and his birthday. Up until our actual anniversary on September 29th, he had no idea where we were even going on the trip. All he knew was he needed to take some time off work. He still didn’t know that once we land in Las Vegas later in the week that we took a helicopter to the Grand Canyon to go white water rafting and that I rented his dream car, a Ferrari Spider, for him to drive while we were in town. Every detail of this trip was a complete surprise for him, including the anniversary photo shoot we’re doing in the Valley of Fire where I have Makeup In The 702 for my hair and makeup services.
love-story-1-13-5I’ve known Johnny since we were kids. He lived in Northern Alabama and I grew up just outside of Memphis, TN, but because of our churches, our families were long time friends. He was actually my long distance “boyfriend” when we were in elementary school and was the first boy to ever give me flowers. Eventually our childhood “romance” fizzled out, but we always sort of kept up with one another. Sometime after I turned 16 my family decided to move to Alabama. Johnny and I reconnected at church one night, exchanged AOL Chat screen names and we’ve been together ever since. He was my saving grace at a time in my life when everything was different from what I had known and helped make my transition to life in Alabama more bearable. He quickly became my best friend and my favorite person. We had been dating for 7 months when he proposed. We were very young (people who know us really well are laughing at that understatement!) when we got engaged and were still young when we married two years later. We got married on September 25, 2004, at just 18 and 19 years old. 😉
love-story-1-13-3We were a very young married couple doing our best to build a life together. We both worked full time jobs while we put ourselves through college. We juggled work responsibilities, studying for college and a new marriage. In the midst of all of that, I decided to pursue a dream of mine and began a small business as a wedding and special event caterer. I say all the time that deciding to get married young is definitely not for everyone or the faint of heart, but I can’t imagine our life any other way. We have literally grown up together and have had each other’s back through it all.
I am rarely at a loss for words, but every time I attempt to express my love and respect for Johnny, the words always seems to allude me. He is one of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever known and has the biggest heart for helping others. I love being his wife and I love the way he loves me!
These photos are from our 10 year anniversary shoot with Erin Lindsey Images in Huntsville, AL (where I wore my wedding dress for the first time in 10 years!).

1-6-trends-2

As we kick of the excitement of the New Year, we wanted to put together a few of the beautiful trends we are sure will be all over weddings this year.

This list can be seen in its original form at Bridal Guide.
1-6-trendsRustic
Homespun barn weddings, filled with branches, lanterns, and nature-inspired décor, are more popular than ever.

Expect to see distressed wood, mismatched seating and silverware as well as lace and twill all over the place this year.

1-6-trends-3Vintage
The vintage wedding trend is still going strong! It’s no surprise — there’s just something that feels so romantic about adding old-world items and antiques to your big day. Many couples opt to include family heirlooms within their décor, giving a personal touch to their vintage wedding.

1-6-trends-4

High Drama

David Tutera is known for his incredibly impressive décor and luxe designs on his hit series, My Fair Wedding. So much that is in this year will be equally-stunning ideas and sure to drop some jaws.

1-6-trends-5Pure Romance
Another popular theme we saw time and time again s was simple, pure romance. From candlelit ceremonies to receptions lit by crystal chandeliers, this beautiful trend will melt your heart.

Deep reds and colds will be sure to kick up the classic love factor in every thing from invitations to favors.

1-6-trends-6Whimsical

We have just been blown away by all the touchingly unique  and romantically creative ideas out there, whether celebrations inspired by the movie Up to a festive carnival with live acts and performers its hard to pick a favorite.
Bright colored balloons, ice cream bars, floating lanterns, dancing candles, and giant flowers….the creativity will NOT be lacking in 2017!!!!

While beauty and makeup with always and forever remain my favorite parts of a wedding, cake (and really any thing yummy for that matter) comes in a VERY close second place. Here’s a round up of some of the loveliest and most scrumptious looking cakes we’ve come across lately.

 12-23-cake-1
We can’t get over how whimsical and stunning this simple cake is with the help of colorful pompoms.
12-23-cake-2
Can we all agree this is one phenomenal cake? All the marvelous layers of different shades of pink are having us do double takes.
12-23-cake-3
A soft texture on the base layer of this cake and the multitoned flowers are the perfect amount of detail to make this a beautiful dessert without going over the top.
12-23-cake-4
This beauty is practically blooming with pink petals and flecks of gold detail that are both timeless and tasteful.

Rose Gold Makeup That is Almost Too Pretty to Wear

December 16, 2016

This article originally appeared at Glamour by Julianne Carell.

Rose gold: You’ve seen it everywhere. All over your Instagram feed, in the hair of your favorite celebrities, in the home section at Target; heck, it’s even the color of your iPhone and MacBook. Nope. It’s not trendy or anything is the biggest understatement of 2016. And you better bet the gorgeously flattering color is coming for your makeup next. For fall, it’s popping up in highlighters, nail polishes, eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, and more. Obviously, we couldn’t be more stoked.

12-16-rose-1Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in Indiscretion, $44

At first glance, this looks like frozen yogurt swirled into a makeup compact. But once you get over the hesitation to touch it (it’s too pretty!), you’ll be glad you did—you’ll end up looking like the diffused, glowy-skinned girl of your dreams.

12-16-rose-2Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadow in Recharged, $22

The best part about this rose gold glitter is that it comes in liquid form—meaning wherever you choose to put it, it won’t budge. For hours. It’ll look particularly magical in the inner corner of your eyes, layered on top of your existing shadow, or alongside the wing of your cat-eye liner.

12-16-rose-3Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette Rose-Gold Edition, $65

This is the dreamiest eye shadow palette we’ve seen since Urban Decay Naked Smoky. And trust us, the photo does not give the sparkliness of it justice. Our favorite combination? Layer Rose Gold on top of Henna for the prettiest smoky eye ever.

12-16-rose-4RMS Beauty Nail Polish in Solar, $15

We can’t think of a skin tone this wouldn’t look amazing on. Plus, the 6-free, vegan formula means it’s safe for your fingers and the animals.🐰 Win-win.

12-16-rose-5NARS Hardwired Eyeshadow in Outer Limits, $25

Sure, this eyeshadow might look like New Year’s Eve in a pan (not the most practical for everyday…) but once you touch it, you’ll see just how well the color blends out for lower-intensity looks.

12-16-rose-6Jouer Cosmetics Long-Wear Lip Topper in Skinny Dip, $16

This “lip topper” is like lip gloss but better—it’s pigmented as hell, stays on forever, and wearing it looks like you just drank pure unicorn water.

12-16-rose-7Algenist Reveal Concentrated Luminizing Drops in Rosé, $38

A highlighter with skin care benefits? Yesss. This one prevents wrinkles and revives dull-looking skin at the same time.

12-16-rose-8ColourPop Eyeliner in Get Paid, $5

Not sure if rose gold is your thing? This eyeliner costs $5, so you won’t break the bank figuring it out.

12-16-rose-9Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer Powder Radiant Finish, $56

Here’s another too-stunning-to-ruin powder to fantasize over. And if you decide to take the plunge on it, it comes with a cute kabuki brush to help you do the job.

12-16-rose-10Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lip Color in Barely Bloomed, $7.49

The trick to pulling off rose gold lipstick? A little goes a long way. Dab it in the center of your everyday nude or pink to make your lips look slightly more plump.

Winter Weather Makeup Tips for When Your Skin Is Super Dry

December 9, 2016

Article can be found in its original form, here at Teen Vogue by Alyse Whitney.

12-2-winter-beauty-1

 Prep your skin at night

Starting with moisturized skin is like keeping your car oiled — it’ll be easier to run foundation over it when you get ready. Powerful masks like GlamGlow’s ThirstyMud or celeb fave Wilma Schumann Hydra-Gel Red Wine Treatment Masques provide deep, intense hydration with nourishing ingredients. Use them once a week and see how much your face needs it.12-2-winter-beauty-2

Wash your face with gentle ingredients

Another skin care prep comes from washing your face every day. Go for something gentle, like La Roche-Posay Micellar Solution — which removes makeup, tones, and cleanses without rinsing or letting water dry out your skin — or First Aid Beauty’s Milk Oil Conditioning Cleanser, which removes makeup and dirt while smoothing skin with avocado and coconut oil.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

The last step before grabbing your makeup is obviously using a great moisturizer. Makeup artist Suzy Gerstein suggests looking for “products with moisturizing and anti-inflammatory ingredients to combat the flakiness and irritation that characterize winter skin.” If you have oily skin, try a gel product, like First Aid Beauty’s Skin Rescue Mattifying Gel that absorbs immediately and minimizes pores. If you have combination or super-dry skin, try Skyn Iceland’s Arctic Hydrating Balm that uses cryogenic technology from the Arctic to repair and moisturize skin. No matter what you use, just make sure it’s absorbed before you start putting makeup on.

It’s prime time12-2-winter-beatuy-5

You don’t need a primer if you’ve followed all of the above steps, but it doesn’t hurt. You can combine lotion and primer with Lush’s Magical Moringa lotion that has argan and rose hip oils, or go for the glow with the whipped, pearl-filled lightweight Becca Backlight Priming Filter. The point is to get an even canvas for your makeup, something you can also achieve by adding drops of Cover FX’s Custom Cover Drops to your favorite moisturizer. Two birds, one stone.

Opt for lightweight coverage

When your skin changes, it’s a guess and check system to see what works for you. Suzy suggest working in thin layers and seeing what the skin needs, like a few drops of face oil (or even almond oil) in your foundation. You should “experiment with different products, and see how your skin absorbs them throughout the day,” whether it’s a CC cream like Jane Iredale’s Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer that gives your skin a soft-focus effect while locking in moisture and calming redness, Tarte’s BB cream that has a built-in primer and up to 12 hours of staying power, or your own foundation that you sheer out a bit with a tinted moisturizer.

Keep your smile happy, too12-2-winter-beauty-3

OK, we don’t mean your teeth, but it’s important to exfoliate your lips to get rid of all of the dry, dead skin so you can wear gorgeous lipstick. The Santa Lip Scrub from Lush tastes like chicka-cherry cola (remember Savage Garden, guys?) and its slight red tint will go perfectly with a bombshell red lipstick. We love the Red Door Red from Elizabeth Arden’s Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick line, which seals in moisture and makes your lips look fuller and plumper — even in the winter.

When your lips get dry and you’re out having fun, don’t touch up with lipstick! “If you’ve done a bold matte lip for a night out, rather than touch up with the lipstick you’ve used, which can start to feel dry and yucky as the night goes on, throw a tinted lip balm into your bag in a bright shade and touch up with that instead,” Suzy suggests.

Don’t go overboard on other makeup12-2-winter-beatuy-4

With your skin so sensitive and dry, it’s better to ease up on product use in the winter. A little blush or bronzer on your cheeks will do, but really, the rosy redness from the cold weather will go a long way naturally. Focus on your eyes, using waterproof mascara like Benefit’s Roller Lash to make ‘em pop while not crying black tears from the wind hitting your face, strong brows, and a simple eyeshadow like just one shade from your Naked palette.

Set it, but don’t forget it

Using a setting spray is always the perfect finish, but take it one step further when you’re trying to hydrate with Jane Iredale’s Pommist Hydration Spray, packed with pomegranate and white tea leaf extracts, or Urban Decay’s cult-favorite Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray. Now your makeup won’t budge, and your skin will stay fresh all day… until you repeat the process all over again.

Suzy also suggests filling a rollerball with virgin, cold-press coconut or argan oil to roll over the cheeks and any dry patches for quick touch-ups. Sigh, is it spring again yet?

A Real Love Story- Jaimee and Patrick

love-story-12-2-4

Jamie shared she and her sweet Patricks love story and this romantic proposal completely melted out hearts! A beautiful story, for a truly beautiful couple.

We are so ecxited to be part of such a lovely day with people so deeply and faithfully in love. Thank you so much for choosing us to do your hair and makeup on your wedding, and thank you even more for sharing your sweet story with us.

love-story-12-2-2
Let us start off by saying we left on the 22nd of May, which is my softball number, and he proposed on the 23rd, which is his baseball number! With that out of the way, we went on vacation to Sedona, AZ. It is such an amazing and spiritual place, not to mention beautiful!
Our plan was to go hiking on a trail called “Devil’s Bridge” and we did just that. It was a gloomy day, where the sun wasn’t sure if it wanted to come out. I had second thoughts about hiking just in case it rained at the  risk of getting stranded, however Patrick insisted we go.
As we hiked to the top of the mountain, there were beautiful, scenic views from all angles. Devil’s Bridge itself was pretty intimidating to walk along as it was a long way down on both sides. When we first reached the peak, there were only 6 people on top of the mountain with us. Before walking the bridge, we decided to hang out, relax, and have our brown bagged packed lunch. As time went on, more hikers started reaching the peak where we were and an audience was slowly forming. Patrick had suggested we use the iPhone instead of the digital camera for our photos because of the zoom and quality of the pictures.
 love-story-12-2-3
Unknowingly, I said,”okay” and wanted to walk out on the bridge and take them right away! He stalled a bit and of course wanted to wait, but I was ready to go downtown for shopping and food! I was fortunate to find a couple girls willing to take our photo. When Patrick was ready, he told me to get in line while he was going to let her know what kind of photo we wanted (in reality, how to record the video). Me being oblivious, went to stand in line. As we started walking out, I pointed to a spot to stop and take a photo while he insisted we keep going out to the center of the bridge. I walked further out before turning around. As I went to put my arm around him, he stepped back and got down on one knee. I was shocked (shocked!).. Words can’t describe how happy I was. It was the best day of my life, so far…
Jaimee, we know that your wedding day is going to be one for the record books. We’re so touched to be part of the team and can’t wait too see how it all came together!
