Falling In Love- Trends You’ll See Everywhere This Season

Falling In Love

Many people get bummed to see summer come to a close. With the end of swimsuit season, no more fruity drinks with umbrellas and the days beginning to get shorter- it’s easy to see why folks could get the blues.

But then there are those people who absolutely LOVE the autumn!! Those that start at NYE to count down the days to Halloween and Thanksgiving. Those that want ALL the pumpkin spice things. Those who were meant to live in boots, jeans and flannels. For those people, this is a time to rejoice!!! This week we’ve put together a list of our favorite fall wedding trends- hope you love them as much as we do!!

METALLICS

Rose golds, platinums, bronze and silvers have been hot on the scene for about a year on every thing from phone cases to popular eyeshadow pallets, serving trays and home decor.

And as so many trends before, as goes fashion industry, so goes the wedding industry shortly after. This fall expect to see these luxurious and lavish tones EVERY WHERE- bridesmaids dresses, cakes, table scape, stationary and seating charts and just about any where else brides and grooms can cover in these glitzy hues.

 GAMES

Since the temperatures are far more tolerable than they were just a few weeks ago, plan on spending a bit of the cocktail hours playing laid back games with family friends and the bridal party.

A little bit of play time with Jenga, Bocce, or Corn Hole is a total blast for guests to play at the beginning of a reception but they are also a smart move to keep your loved ones occupied while bride, groom and wedding party are taking the formal photos after the ceremony.
Games are also a great gift idea for couples starting their new life together (many of whom are also moving in together or getting a new place to live) and one of my favorite features is that its a great opportunity for more personalizations and monograms!!!! Which weddings can always use more of!!

FURRY FRIENDS

Im not exactly sure why the trend of absolutely adorable animals at a wedding seems to have really picked up right as fall kicked off- maybe its the drop in the temperature, maybe there is a petting zoo connection…..who knows, but I am loving it!!!

There is a whole mini- industry popping up where you can rent these lovely llama guests for your wedding or any other special occasion!!

From bunny, llama, fancy chickens, goats, mini- pigs….expect to see the whole farm at weddings this season. Here are some more really adorable animal inspired weddings

BIG PAPER FLORALS

Whether using these giant hand crafted blooms as bouquets or as background decor, paper flowers area  great choice because they are just so incredibly versatile. You have so many more options and avenues to be unique and expressive when you are creating something on your own.

If you elect to make them your self, they could be quite a bit more time intensive than simply ordering fresh cuts, but there is no denying that paper and fabric are quite a bit less expensive than the real things.  See some of the best tutorials we found on the web here, for making them your self.

There are so many beautiful and creative ways to express your self at your wedding during the fall. If you think we missed your favorite- leave us a line in the comments!!

And as always, CONGRATULATIONS to all our stunning brides getting married this fall!!

It’s Bridal Show Season!!!

August 9, 2017

Well that special time of year has come……

IT’S BRIDAL SHOW SEASON!!

The biggest and most well known event in our area for more than two decades is Bridal Spectacular, and we are so excited to be there again at

Booth #109 this August 18th and 19th.

Bridal conventions and show are a great opportunity to get some serious day dreaming and planning done in a short amount of time, but with all those vendors and attendants the job can be a bit over whelming.

So we’ve put together some tips on how to get the most out of your time there.

HAVE A PLAN

When you first walk on to the bridal show floor it can be a little bit overwhelming. The space is gigantic, the crowds can be crazy and there are literally hundreds of different vendors there that provide dozens of different wedding services- from caterers to makeup artist……they are all going to be there.

Have an idea of your the colors you are loving at the moment. Are you wanting to be a spring bride and planning for possible showers or envisioning your first kiss under the trees as the fall colors change to deep reds and yellow?

What about your budget? Is this something that you and your partner are going to foot the bill for? How many guests are you thinking? A small ceremony with a few dozen guests enjoying an intimate dinner? Or a rocking party with hundreds taking over the dance floor.

It will help you tremendously to keep some of these things in mind.

ENLIST YOUR A TEAM

Unless you’re planning private and romantic elopement  (which so many of our clients do as well) you’re almost guaranteed to have a “team” or “squad” of people in your life that want to be part of your day and will do just about anything to see you and your future spouse happy at your wedding.

Whether it’s your mom, aunt, cousins, soon-to-be-mother/sister-in-law, best girlfriend or……heck……even your brother or dad!!!!! Make these folks feel special and ask for their help and support. Walking up and down the seemingly endless aisles can be intimidating and daunting to say the least- having people by your side, who love you and have been filled in on your vision for the wedding will help keep you focused and eliminate a lot of the of the extra noise.

ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

In the days leading up to the bridal show, before you even step foot in the convention center, think of what you are going there for. Great questions to ask your self are “What have I already got planned/booked/paid a deposit on?” , “What am I still missing?” , “What is my over all budget?” and “What are my “splurge” items/services?

By asking your self these questions (and really thinking about the answers) you can save a HUGE amount of time and focus your efforts at the bridal show.  If you’ve already booked your dream photog, then you can easily eliminate a few booths. If you are ordering a delicious custom cake to be delivered from your favorite bakery in your home town, then make sure to keep that in mind.

MAKE REAL CONNECTIONS

As has been mentioned, there are A LOT of vendors to see and people to meet at these mega shows, there is absolutely no possible way you are going to get to know and connect with all of them.

Just like a networking event it’s easy to make your rounds at a bridal show, shake plenty of hands, collect lots of business cards and then get home to start looking over your look and realize you don’t even remember any of those names or what it is that they do.Makeup In The 702 Lipstick Bar-Casey Jade Photography

Once you’ve asked your self about your budget, time line, colors, theme- make the most of your time by focusing on the vendors that meet your remaining needs but are also people you genuinely like!!! As there are dozens of different services offered to brides there are also dozens of different personalities, its important to work with vendors that you vibe with. Those that see the vision for your special day.

ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

In the days leading up to the bridal show, before you even step foot in the convention center, think of what you are going there for. Great questions to ask are “What have I already planned/booked/paid a deposit on?” , “What am I still missing?” , “What is my over all budget?” and “What are my “splurge” items/services?

ENJOY YOUR SELF!!!

There are countless resources- be they magazines, blogs, forums or bridal shows- go mine through while you are planning your wedding. It is important to remember what the whole celebration is about. While planning a fabulous party is always at the front of mind the most vital part of this experience is remembering that two people who love each other endlessly are coming together to celebrate that devotion.

Don’t rush it. Don’t stress it. Take a breath and take it all in. These moments will absolutely fly by, so be sure to slow down and absorb the moment that you are currently in.

50 States 50 Weddings

We, at Makeup In The 702 have been in the Las Vegas wedding industry for quite awhile now. We have also been privileged and honored to work with, what we believe to be some the most genuinely kind, caring and talented professionals in the industry.

Through various events and organizations we regularly get to see and collaborate with Las Vegas wedding vendors like florists, bakers, photographers, seamstresses, designers and planners, but its not every day we get to mingle and meet our peers in other markets across the nation. When we got The Knots list of  “50 Wow- Worthy Weddings Across all 50 States” it was exciting not only because we LOVE swooning over beautiful celebrations of love, but we get a chance to see how things are done across the country.

While I wish we could share all 50 off these gorgeous celebrations we picked out a few of the states that hold a special place in the heart of the Makeup In The 702 team. Enjoy!!

 ILLINOIS

As their wedding week approached, Eric and Michael began to realize that if the Cubs won the World Series, their victory parade could end up happening the day of their wedding—and possibly going past their venue, the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. “As fate would have it, these events did collide but in an amazingly fun way,” Michael says. “Fortunately, nothing about the parade interfered with our wedding, it only added to the celebration. Many of our favorite photos of that day were us out and about with parade-goers and the wedding party having the time of our lives.”

FLORIDA

A wedding arch covered in Monstera leaves, Key lime pie and pineapple boutonnieres exuded historic Floridian culture for McKenzie and Chris’s oceanside wedding.

 MASSACHUSETTS

“Having met in the choir at college, music was the prominent focus of Desta and Benjamin’s rustic-chic wedding at Charles River Museum. During the ceremony, Benjamin surprised Desta by serenading her with a rendition of Leon Bridges’ “Coming Home,” accompanied by close friends who sang backup and played the guitar and saxophone. (A choir even performed a benediction to bless the reception dinner.)”

RHODE ISLAND

“In just three months, Holly and Roger planned an elegant DIY affair with a subtle bohemian twist at the Providence Public Library. “When we walked into the Providence Public Library, the architecture alone took our breath away,” Holly says. The couple incorporated elements that spoke to their New England locale, affording friends and family a taste of local flavor. In lieu of a traditional champagne toast, Holly and Roger opted for a chowder toast, providing each guest with mini mugs of New England clam chowder garnished with bite-size clam cakes.”

 WASHINGTON DC

“No celebration in the nation’s capital would be complete without a few nods to history, and Kate and Nick didn’t disappoint, gathering their friends and family at the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a blowout bash in their hometown of Washington, DC. The reception kicked off with cocktail hour in the galleries, where guests enjoyed Champagne Sparkles, live music and the museum’s myriad of artwork. To allow the unique features of the venue to shine through, the couple opted for a clean, elegant aesthetic for the reception, complete with mirrored tabletops, lush bouquets of full white blooms and gold-rimmed stemware.”

LOUISIANA

Brooke and Paul showcased Louisiana’s natural beauty by saying “I do” under a Spanish moss tree “in the swamp.” Their breezy, boho vibe paired with seafood gumbo and a ride on a pontoon boat rounded out the dreamy affair.

ARIZONA

The state’s desert colors, petrology and various species of cacti accented the bohemian vibe of Christa and Jesse’s waterfront vows.

MONTANA

At Sarah and George’s Western wedding, a horse-drawn wagon transported guests from the ceremony cliffside to the reception at a ranch.

SOUTH DAKOTA

An inviting lounge in Morgan and Bryan’s hometown kept the December chill away for the couple’s holiday-inspired nuptials.

UTAH

Since Marie and Chase love the outdoors, they exchanged vows at a natural history museum with views of the Wasatch Mountains.

I Love You a BRUNCH!!!

July 25, 2017

Comments Closed

Recently we have seen two of our very favorite things coming together to create a new fun bridal trend- WEDDING BRUNCH!!!

While there are SO many things to love about morning wedding celebrations and the breakfast and brunch receptions to follow, here are some of our favorite things about the fabulous new brunch wedding trend-

COFFEE

Whether you set up a cute little coffee and tea cart for your guests to pour them selves a cup as they walk into the ceremony or you opt to replace the now classic cupcake or candy bar with a Coffee and Donut Bar – the caffeine consideration is sure to be appreciated by friends and family during a morning celebration!

CASUAL ATIRE

By having your wedding celebration in the first 1/2 of the day, you open up more casual options for the bride and groom as well as the guests.

A shorter hem-line, a little bit of poof, some embroidered flowers and of course ruffles are perfect for a morning wedding.

CAKE

Whether it’d donuts, crepes, muffins or pancake, there is just something about pastries and yummy treats at a Sunday brunch that just seems to make the whole world seem sweeter.  And isn’t that just the perfect vibe for a wedding too?!

An adorable stack of pancakes topped with fresh fruit works great as a passed nibble for when the guests arrive to the reception after the ceremony.

Donuts- one of the most casual and unassuming breakfast foods is given an elegant upgrade with a bit of pink icing and decorated with roses and babies breath.

As some one with an unabashed sweet tooth, have to say that this is for sure my favorite part of a beautiful brunch wedding……all the options for a cake!!!

AVOCADO TOAST and DEVILED EGGS

Ok, Ok……so I didn’t actually see these listed on any Why Brunch Weddings Are Great articles or witness it at any of the beautiful celebrations we have worked with….but how perfect are they for a fun & classy breakfast at a wedding?!?!?!?!

If you are a frequent enjoyer of brunches in your day-to-day life, you will for sure know that avocado toast is pretty much the business at the moment. It can be visually impressive as well as versatile and healthy, and while I know those last two are not always the goal for a wedding menu- they are certainly added bonuses!!

And keeping in tune with the versatility tone of avocado toast- deviled eggs meet the mark as well. They are also an easy and inexpensive way to feed the masses and from little kiddos to grand parents, pretty much guarantee a smile on every ones face.

COST SAVINGS

Because brunch and breakfast happens in the morning and also likely a Sunday, the price of the venue alone will be significantly less than if you booked on the more popular (and expensive) Friday or Saturday afternoon and evening.

While its not nearly as exciting to talk about or as fun as it is decide “donuts vs. waffles”, one of the realities of day time brunch wedding is that it could be a significant savings.

Celebrity Weddings We Are In Love With!

Now that we are in the absolutely gallows of the summer heat and the lovely dewey mornings and mild evenings of spring are just a distant memory, photos of celebrity weddings that took place over the past few months are starting to trickle out. Below are a few of our favorite  celebrities who got married in Spring 2017.

Samira-Wiley-Wedding-Dress

This past March Orange Is the New Black actress Samira Wiley married one of the shows Lauren Morelli in an edgy modern ceremony in Palm Springs. Samira wore an elegant off the shoulder dress and Lauren wore a modern pants suit one piece, both designed by Christian Siriano.

paradise

Carly Waddell and Evan Bass from Season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise tied the knot this past spring in a colorful intimate ceremony in front of family and friends in Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta resort near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The bride, Carly looked absolutely stunning with a loose side braid for her wedding day hair  and a vintage inspired grey dress.

Jessica wedding 1

As if the elegant florals and lavish decor, as well as the stunning designer dresses and completely star studded guest lists weren’t enough to swoon at while pouring over celebrities weddings, the locations of these festivities are enough to make your heart jump!! The incredibly talented, Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, married her long time boyfriend, Italian investment banker Gian Luca Passi De Preposulo, at his family estate -Villa Tiepolo Passi, which is about an hour north of Venice.

Emmy Rossum 1

One of my favorite actresses, Emmy Rossum from one of my favorite shows, Shameless, married her sweetie in a gorgeous traditional Jewish ceremony over Memorial Day weekend. While Emmy plays a gritty, hard hitting and no-holds-barred Fiona Gallagher on the show, a truly soft and loving image was portrayed at the wedding. There were hundreds and hundreds of bursting white roses, gardenias and lilies adorning the temple- it just added to the elegance of the event.

emmy-rossum-wedding-2

The lovely ceremony was attended by the bride and grooms big families as well the cast of the show (all the Gallaghers at a wedding!? Now THAT is a party!!) and the whole lot headed over to the Guggenheim for a rocking reception with a life band, a DJ, food trucks and of course…photo booth!!

Pippa Middleton

We are total suckers for any thing royal here, so when it was announced last fall the The Duchess of Cambridge’s (formally know as Kate Middleton) little sister (more famously know as Pippa Middleton) was getting married the squeals of excitement were uncontainable!!! It was so exciting to hear of little details and did bits as they trickled out during the planning, but it was almost impossible to contain the enthusiasm when the actual wedding happened.

Pippa middleton 1 While Pippa, the stylish little sister of the Duchess is not officially a “Royal”, her wedding this past spring was absolutely fit for a princess!!

Set in the English country side….CHECK!!

Saying “I Do” under the eves of a historic gothic cathedral……CHECK!!

Princess Charlotte as a bridesmaid and Prince George as a ring bearer…..CHECK!!

AND…..ATTENDED BY THE QUEEN HER SELF?!?!?!?! CHECK and CHECK!!

“Color is everything, black and white is more.” – Dominic Rouse

B&W 2

Black and white pictures are a complex creature- there is classic and simple elegance to them- something that hints at a time gone by when full color images were not available. Yet there is also a complex and mysterious aspect there as well- what are we missing when we don’t see the colors present in that fleeting moment? What is left for us to discover for our selves?

The brides last moments of quiet and calm before the excitement of the wedding are captured in this sweet image.

inspiration

Upon the start of your appointment, if you were to ask anyone on the Makeup In The 702 team what their goal for you was, any one of them would say “To make you look and feel like you on your most beautiful day”.

But when we turn that question around and ask our clients what they are looking to get out of their appointment or even what makes them feel beautiful on a given day, the answers don’t come as easily. So today we wanted to share a few places we find inspiration and think you will too for your wedding day hair and makeup look.

Instagram or social media in general are in invaluable took for scrolling through beautiful images from photoshoots and real weddings a like. Whether you are looking for ideas for decor, dishes or dresses, there is no shortage of beautiful things to be found there.

The Red Carpet

Next time you’re planning on parking it in front of the TV to watch all that is hot and happening on the red carpet with your girlfriends, make sure you add “note pad and paper” to your list of supplies along with champaign and pop corn.

Take a look at the various cuts and neck lines of the dresses- is there something that looks similar to the what you have our heart set on? How are the celebrities and stars wearing their hair with those dresses? What new trends in jewelry and accessories are you seeing?

pintrest

Pinterest

I want to be on the record as saying, HOW ON EARTH DID WE PLANB WEDDINGS WITH OUT PINTEREST?!?! My goodness!!! Not only is is an endless resource for gorgeous inspiration and unique images, if you’ve got a few minutes you can also find instructions and directions on how to create the wonderful things you find and make our wedding dreams come true.

As you get closer to your wedding date, save your favorite images to your phone photo roll in a special album so they are easily accessible (if you are getting ready for the wedding in one of the hotels on the Las Vegas strip WiFi is notoriously bad).

Magazines on a stand in a newsagents. Image shot 09/2009. Exact date unknown.

Celebrities and Magazines

Much like scoping out the red carpet to see what the newest trends are, so much great inspiration can come from keeping an eye on celebrity magazines.

Is there an actress or singer that you’ve heard you that you look just like? How many times have people said that you remind them of Naomi Campbell or Megan Fox? Is Beyonce or Kate Moss your forever hair crush? Look for photos of those lovely ladies in the rolls they play and in formal settings. Use those as a guide for what direction you go in for your wedding day look.

When you think of beautiful things, remember to think of your self as well!

This is just a short list of places were ideas can be sparked when you are looking for how to proceed with your wedding planning. We hope that these are able to help you find the the inspiration that leads to your perfect look on the day of your wedding!!

It is almost every day that I’m reminded that I have the best job in the world and that I’m lucky enough to work with some of the most talented people in the Las Vegas valley and the wedding industry on a daily basis.

This weekend, the absolutely charming Miss Jessie, from The Emerics photography sent me these lovely photos that she captured of our gorgeous bride Mackenzie and her new hubby John at their breath taking wedding at Springs Preserve.MackenzieJohnWed_photosbyTheEmerics-005

Mackenzie choose a muted earth tone for her brides maids to wear for the event. The subtle color choice allowed for natural beauty of the location to really take center stage.

4-7-love-story-5

With the warmer temperatures, flowers blooming and birds chirping it so refreshing to have spring finally in the air!!! And love is clearly in the air too, because we have gotten so many love and proposal stories from our brides recently that there is NO possible way for us to choose a favorite!!

Maegan & Kurt

Maegan: We met eight years ago through MySpace when that was still a popular website. I stumbled upon his profile, thought he was cute and noticed that he was a Photoshop expert. I posted a bait request looking for someone to help teach me knowing he would offer.4-7-love-story-1

Kurt: When I saw Maegan’s post asking for help with photoshop, I thought it seemed too good to be true, but I responded anyway because she looked like a babe.

Maegan: One hour into my first lesson with Kurt, he noticed I wasn’t really retaining any information, so I offered to get him dinner as a thank you. Little did he know this would be our first “date”. We have been together ever since.
Kurt proposed two years into our relationship and we have been waiting for the right time to get married. In the mean time we have raised three beautiful kitties and bought our first home.
Kurt:We finally decided this year we were in the right place to start planning our wedding. After being a part of several weddings throughout our relationship, and everyone saying they wish they had just eloped, we decided to take that advice.
After eight years together, we are excited to finally begin this stage of our life.
Jessica & Alec

4-7-love-story-2Alec and I first met in 2010. I had just started a new job and he was a seasoned vet of the company. We became friends after about a year and when the world was set to end on December 21 2012, we had fallen head over heels for each other. He whisked me away on an amazing trip to Scotland after a few months of dating, and after coming home…I knew he was the one for me. We have so much fun together I honestly feel like I’m marrying my best friend. Our wedding is only the beginning of what is set to be the best years of our lives!

Amber & Garrett
Garret and I met during the summer of 2013at a friends house for a poker night. All i could do was stare at him!! He had the most gorgeous eyes and a perfect smile. He was going to college in Minnesota and was home just for summer break. Although that was the night we met it took us a few months to kindle things up. I can’t lie when i say i thought about that handsome smile a lot after the night we met.
One day i got a message from a familiar face asking how i was doing and asked for my number. he was moving back home to finish college in TX. I was super excited. He promised to take me on a date when he returned and let me tell you, that was the longest month ever waiting for hom to be back in TX. We had only met that one night during summer and yet it felt like we had known each other for years.
Finally that awaited night came and we had our first date! I was so nervous the whole day leading up to that night. I had my best friend Emily help me pick out my outfit. All while she was calling me crazy cause I told her that Im going to marry this man!! (can’t call me crazy now!!)
And from that night the rest is history! I didn’t believe in love at first sight till I met him. Now I’m getting to marry my best friend and better half!!
4-7-love-story-3

It was the night of November 7th 2015. We were at his Dads lake house with everyone hanging out, having a relaxing weekend. After dinner all the boys decided to smoke cigars on the porch. So we all headed outside for cigars and conversation. While outside out dog, Bear, decided to get caught eating steak from the counter. So I ran inside to deal with him, little did I know that me going inside set this glorious night in motion. When I came back outside, Garrett’s father, Chuck, bet me $10 that i couldn’t light a cigar in the wind (I never turn down a bet). Garrett handed me the cigar and when I looked down there it is! The most gorgeous ring i ever saw around the end of the cigar. From there i couldn’t help but cry. Garrett got down on one knee and asked if I would spend forever with him. Of course I said “YES!!”

Taryn & James

Several years ago in two very different places, two young people started a new journey. Neither could have known at the time where this journey was truly going to take them, for neither saw it coming. Some years later, this journey led them both far from home and this is where these two strangers met.
When the girl first met the boy he was quiet. He said very little to her and that led her to think his feelings laid elsewhere. Too late, he finally told her what his true feeling were.
Over the next few years the boy and the girl talked occasionally, they each had returned to their normal lives knowing the distance between them was insurmountable. They went on like this for a few years more until fate had plans to bring them together again. During this phase of their journey they were paired quite closely together and went to each other for help and support and quickly grew even closer.
While the distance 4-7-love-story-4still divided them there was something pulling them in the same direction. At the most inopportune moment they realized they still had very real feelings for each other. After some time of keeping on as friends, the boy agreed to travel to meet the girl again after so many years. His actions were louder than their words had ever been, so loud that their words up until then seemed like silence.
As their feelings deepened the distance seemed to widen. As their love grew, reality slowly crept in. The girl had worked hard to get where she was, and the boy loved his family. She could not let him give up his family and he could not let her give up everything she worked so hard for. Decidedly, the two had no choice but to end their unfulfilled fairytale.
A few months later, the two knew they could not merely be friends. Their bond was too strong and all the time apart only made them sure they had chosen the wrong course.
The girl gave up everything for the boy. However, in doing so she gained more than she had before, more than she ever knew she needed and more than she could have ever wanted.
