Taking a little side step from weddings this week it is our pleasure to introduce you to fashion photographer Richard Julio.
Welcome Richard!  To get started can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience working with Makeup In The 702?
“I am a nationally published fashion and portrait photographer based in Las Vegas Nevada, specializing in both commercial fashion and professional headshots for models, actors and corporate professionals. As a fashion photographer, I need to be able to rely on my entire team to be prepared for anything. My friends at Makeup in the 702 are always prepared for anything and can pull off whatever I or my client needs. Working with other professionals also allows me to bounce ideas around to see what will work and what may not, having that experience to tap is key when on the job.”
Taylor Monochrome-034
What would you like potential client know about working with you?
“For any client I always recommend planning out your photo shoot. The best place to start is by asking these questions. What clothes are you going to wear? Will you need to buy anything, if so when and will you have it in time for the shoot? What types of shots do I want to photographer to definitely get?”
What are some of the misconceptions about your service?
“Lots of people nowadays think you can Photoshop anything. To some degree that is true, but the tradeoff is that fixing some things in post-production doesn’t look as good as getting it right in camera. How can a client be prepared, simple things like making sure clothes are ironed ahead of time and getting a good night’s rest before hand can really make a big difference so that you avoid looking tired with bags under your eyes. Professional hair and makeup styling is worth the investment as well. Having a professional makeup stylist that can blend, contour and cover up blemishes in invaluable in photography. In addition, a professionally done hair style will last longer and have more versatility throughout your shoot. When hair is properly dried, smoothed, or set; it has memory. That curl, volume, or sleekness will fall right back into place after clothing changes or action poses, or be able to easily be switched into a completely different look quickly. All these things are a great way to look your best and get the most out of your photos.”
What are the benefits of using your service?
“I work hard to produce high end images that look ready to be published in a magazine. That means you get stunning images and tailored customer service to fit your needs.”
Where do you find your inspiration?
“I find inspiration in many different genres of art such as movies, music, theater, painting, other types of photography etc. Most of my focus however is on the fashion industry, following what trends are popular or up and coming is important as a fashion photographer.”

Kylie & Jace Keep The Mission In Mind

We’ve been sharing the love story of Kylie and Jace with you since their engagement and we are SO very happy to share this chapter with you today! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! What a wonderful day it was so filled with love, family and joy. Now that Kylie has had a chance to catch her breath we asked her to share their planning experience with us, she has some really great tips for planning couples that we hope you find helpful if you’re planning your day.

“Our wedding was an absolute dream come true. From start to finish we both felt so surrounded with love and support that my heart and smile were bursting open the whole day.
Jace and I live in Las Vegas and were planning a wedding in Pensacola, FL, where we both grew up. At first glance this long distance project seemed a little daunting, and on several occasions it was mentioned (by other people) that we ditch it all and get married at a chapel down town- but once we figured out what was most important to us, all the detail fell into place.
We met during the summer of 2004, the week after we graduated high school. Since then it has been it has been a nonstop adventure- we love spending time with and visiting our friends and family that are scattered around the world, we love cooking and eating great food, we love dancing, traveling, laughing and are just generally laid back and light hearted folks by nature. Those were the things that we wanted the most at our wedding.
We wanted to spend our day, eating delicious local Southern food, sipping plenty of champagne and tasty brew, and dancing to good music in a beautiful place- all in the company of our favorite people. It was also very important for us to keep the costs and stress level as low as possible.
By keeping this mission in mind, when various costs, questions, problems or decisions came up it was easy to keep our focus.
We found out that the least expensive flowers available in the fall are white- we chose white flowers!!!
With several pregnant bridesmaids and a few with vastly different heights (5’1-6’0) it was impossible to find a dress every one was comfortable with- we picked a dress that could be worn 25 different ways!!!
Elaborate and intricate table decorations and place settings would have added hours of prep time and hundreds of dollars- we decided to keep set up and break down as simple as possible.

My advise to newly engaged couples planning a wedding would be to really think about the things that have been importation to you both leading up to the wedding.
Are you guys sci-fi buffs?
Do you share a love of fiction or poetry?
Do you have an artistic flair?
Is their a culture or tradition you want to honor and acknowledge?
Once you have a basic frame work of what you really value and what you want your experience to be, all the blogs, websites, inspiration boards, magazines and stores become a little less intimidating.
Because we live so far away from “home” and we both have family all over the country we knew that the biggest task would be getting all of the people who are special to us in the same place. We were so touched by how many of our loved ones made such an effort to share our new adventure with us.

Bridal Blemish 101

Doesn’t it always seem that we get a blemish at the very WORST time!  Here’s an email I received from a panic stricken bride…
From A Bride:
Hi Megan,
We have an problem! I had a big pimple just under my cheek about two days ago and it’s quite noticeable still. As if that’s not enough I noticed I had some nasty cold sore on my bottom lip corner coming up today. As I’m sure you can imagine it’s a total nightmare 🙁 I just would like to give you a head up and maybe you could rally the message to the makeup lady. I have no idea how much better / worse they are going to get. I just hope she has some tricks up her sleeves and do her magic on the day of. Though I do realize it’s unreasonable to expect a total coverage of the problem area 🙁
Right now I’m applying Abreva and Herpcin L for the cold sore and not doing much for the zit to avoid even more swelling. If you know any other ways to mange them either right now or the night before, I would be the most happy to learn
Thank you so much!

Ok, so let’s talk about how to help.
Please take a deep breath and exhale……
First please note that both the blemish and cold sore are brought on by stress, environment and hormones. Sounds like all 3 could be a factor here. We are just just a short while from your wedding, so let’s not be to aggressive in treating them, but take more of a mild approach.

First, keep your hands off???? Bacteria on your fingers will only exuberant the problem. Second, use Neosporin on both areas several times a day. It’s hydrating, bacteria fighting and of course healing properties will work wonders in a few short amount of time. Be relentless with reapplication- remember- hands off. Second, the best way to cleanse your body is water. Drink as much as humanly possible in the next few days- stay away from coffee and alcohol and if you must have, limit the amount. Water will flush your system and of course help to heal your biggest organ- your skin.
Let’s talk about the day of. Please know that we would never emphasize any issues that you are having, but note that texture is texture. take a look at the wall next to you- see the texture. I can paint that wall any color. Blue, black or purple, but the texture will still come through. It’s imperative that you do not pick and cause a soar, dryness or extra texture in those areas.

I know all of this tips will help.

Welcome to the first week of Summer in Las Vegas! Temps soar up to 120 in the direct sun and stay a balmy cool 105 in the shade. Low overnight temps typically don’t fall below 80, so what’s a makeup artist to do??? Search high and low for the worlds best waterproof and heat resistant products. After all we guarantee 15 hour water and transfer resistant makeup.

mac-waterproof-pro-longwear-foundation-3-e1427142890244A few months ago my friends over at Mac Pro Forum Shops hinted me up on a HUGE product launch and boy they were not kidding!  So generous that gave me the MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Water Proof Foundation Collection to try. Of course MAC is a name I trust whole heartily, but to try this out on a client for the first time on her wedding day- not gonna happen!

Calling all friends and family- come sit in my chair and let me try this out….. (I’m very fortunate to have friends and family that will let me test out and demo products.)

The Key claims and benefits for MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Water Proof Foundation are:

  • MAC-Prolongwear-Nourishing-Waterproof-FoundationWater-resistant
  • Transfer-resistant
  • Long-wearing, 24 hours
  • Provides instant and long-term hydration
  • Oil-free
  • Provides stay-true colour
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Non-acnegenic
  • Ophthalmologist tested
  • For all skin types

That being said we put it to the test in the HOT Las Vegas desert and after testing this new product out on a handful of volunteers my findings were as I suspected ….  sure enough MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Water Proof Foundation is a wedding worthy product 61f0a0e5fb9f3eb781475e7c02861708to add to add to our ever growing kit/arsenal. With 16 blendable shades an artist can cover any imperfection or skin type and of course the multipurpose use of foundation and concealer is always a winner in my book.

Pro Long Wear Water Proof Nourishing Foundation is a tenacious waterproof formula that can be used as a foundation or concealer, wearing for an unprecedented 24 hours. Neither rain nor tears can budge this oil-free watertight product that actually repels moisture from the surface of the face. The formula blends seamlessly on the skin with medium to full weightless coverage and a natural satin finish.

This foundation goes above and beyond it’s claims and benefits lasting on wards of 48+ hours. Again, don’t try this at home kids…. it was just for testing purposes. Please wash your face every evening.

I give MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Water Proof Foundation the Makeup in the 702 seal of approval!
