5 Common Pre-Wedding Hair Mistakes

You know you really shouldn’t chop off ten inches or dye your hair purple right before the big day, but did you know that dirty locks and leave-in conditioner are huge no-nos as well? Chances are, you didn’t. We hit up a bunch of bridal hairstylists to get the scoop on the not so obvious pre-wedding hair mistakes too many brides make. Be honest, are you guilty of any of the below?
1. Picking the wrong hair accessory…
For your style of dress, wedding and/or hairdo! The right accessory will glam up your whole look, while the wrong one can be gaudy, misplaced and ruin everything, says wedding beauty expert and founder of A Bridal Piece, Keka Heron. “Take the time to shop around, and consult with your stylist for the best piece for your desired look.”
2. Using a leave-in conditioner or doing a deep conditioning treatment right before
Soft hair, do care! Depending on how often you wash your mane, the bridal stylists at Eva Scrivo Salon suggest doing a deep conditioning treatment no sooner than one to two shampoos prior to your wedding date. “Otherwise, your hair will be too soft to work with, which will affect the longevity of the style,” they explain. As for leave-in conditioner, steer clear of it the wedding week. “Leave-in conditioner tends to leave your locks looking oily and dirty for a few days afterward so if you’re planning on giving your hair a last minute rejuvenation, make sure you do it at least a week in advance,” warns bridal hair and makeup artist Jordan Mae.
3. Purchasing clip-in hair extensions last minute1.8 Blog 1
Get them for your trial, not just the day of! As Brittany Lo, Founder of Manhattan-based beauty service company Beautini, points out, many brides fall in love with a hairstyle on Pinterest only to discover that it looks totally different on them at their trial. So they purchase hair extensions last minute to fix it. The problem with this? Extensions often need to be cut and color matched, cautions Lo. “We’ve had brides show up with hair extensions they want to use that are a completely different color and poor quality.” If you decide to use hair extensions, she highly recommends splurging for 100% human (Remy) hair and avoiding the synthetic kinds.4. Not washing your hair
Turns out, dirtier isn’t better! A lot of brides show up with dirty hair because someone once told them it’s better for their style, notes NYC hairstylist Amy Moscowitz of Cutler Salon. “On the contrary, if the hair is too oily it can be very hard to manage. Instead, arrive with clean, dry hair so that your stylist can prep it with the proper products.”

5. Skipping cuts and trims for the sake of long locks
Big mistake, brides! Most girls want their hair to be as long as possible so they avoid haircuts and trims until after the wedding, tells Moscowitz. “This is a bad idea because the ends will split and continue to split until they look horribly damaged. This will definitely show if you’re wearing your hair down,” she warns. I recommend a small half-inch trim every 12 weeks for a bride that is growing her hair. This will keep it long but healthy.”

The Complete Guide to Where to Put Your Eye Makeup

Jan 12 pic 4
Eyeliner, eyeshadow, blending brushes — oh my! Learning to use eye makeup is no easy task, even for seasoned beauty buffs. If you have a tough time decoding all those tricky makeup tutorials, we have an easy guide to each part of the eye so you know where all those eyeliners, mascaras, eye shadows, etc. should go:
Jan 12 pic 1
BROW BONE/HIGHLIGHT
If you want your brows to “pop” and open up your eye area, you can add a matte or shimmery pale eye shadow directly under the brow.
LID
Typically, your main shade or shades of eye shadow go on your eyelid, but you can get creative with your eyeliner here, as well. Some people have a lot of space here, while others have very little — it varies from person to person.
CREASE
Between your brow bone and eyelid, applying a darker shade of eyeshadow here, right along your eye socket, adds dimension to your eye. Tip: If you have hooded eyes, play with different placements for crease shadow, opening your eyes after each test to see which placement makes your crease shadow visible.
OUTER V
The outermost corner of the eye where eyeliner or deeper shades of eye shadow are typically applied in a “V” shape, though you can blend your makeup into a “C” shape for a softer effect.
Jan 12 pic 2
UPPER LASHLINE
Right along and above the edges of your upper eyelid where your eyelashes begin, you can define your eye with eyeliner or eyeshadow, or even simply mascara.
WATERLINE
The inner rim of the eye, the waterline can be host to dark eyeliner to add a smokey look or pale nude eyeliner to make the eye look wider and more awake.
LOWER LASHLINE
Just below the waterline, your lower lash line is where liner and shadow can be applied to define the eyes.
TEAR DUCT
This is the inner corner of the eye, and where you can add a little pale or shimmery shadow here to open things up.

What You’re Eating May Be Ruining Your Face.

face 1

Before your reach for that second cookie (a pour another glass of wine), consider this: Your diet may be affecting more than your weight and health, it could be ruining your skin, too. How? It’s all detailed in a new book, Younger Skin Starts in the Gut, out in March 2016, from Dr. Nigma Talib, a London-based naturopathic doctor and skincare specialist.
Not only does she claim she can distinguish which foods someone overeats based on their complexion, but she’s even come with names for each not-so-healthy look, including “wine face,” “dairy face,” and so on.
Curious if you have one of these “faces”? Dr. Talib has created handy visual aids to help you figure it out. We also chatted with her to find out ways to combat these annoying skin problems — and get a healthier complexion.
wine face
WINE FACE
There are plenty of benefits of drinking red wine — in moderation, that is. Just as red wine can stain your teeth and mess with your mouth, it can lead to your skin looking ruddy and lined.
The Symptoms
Pronounced lines or blemishes between the eyebrows, droopy eyelids, pronounced fine lines and wrinkles underneath the eyes, dehydrated skin with feathery lines across the cheeks, enlarged pores, a reddish skin tone, and deep nasolabial folds.
What It Means
“On top of the fact that it’s full of sugar — as well as potentially pesticides and sulphites — wine causes dehydration,” Dr. Talib told Good Housekeeping. She adds: Your body loses water, your liver is overworked, and your digestion can go “haywire” the day after indulging, leading your skin to look wrinkly, ruddy, and saggy.
Even worse than the short term effects: If you drink excessively on a regular basis, Dr. Talib warns that you can disrupt your gut’s bacteria, leading it to be potentially pathogenic, meaning it can cause diseases. In short, drinking a fourth glass of wine multiple times per week just isn’t worth it.
So, how much wine is safe for your skin — and how can you get rid of these symptoms?
“I recommend taking a break from alcohol for three weeks,” she advises. After that, Dr. Talib suggests living an “80:20 life,” where you have a glass or two of wine 20% of the time, but totally abstain from booze the other 80%
Dairy face
DAIRY FACE
The Symptoms
Swollen eyelids, under eye bags, darkness under the eyes, widespread acne and blemishes, pale cheeks, and concentrated pimples on the chin.
What It Means
Putting an extra splash of milk in your coffee or adding just one more scoop of ice cream to your sundae may be tempting, but Dr. Talib warns that it can seriously upset your complexion — even if you’re not lactose intolerant. “As you get older, you lose the enzymes that let you properly digest lactose,” says Talib. This leads to inflammation all over your body, including your face, which can appear tired and red.
If your face is starting to appear swollen and sleepy, and your skin looks dull and bumpy, Talib recommends taking a break from dairy all together for a few weeks to see how different your complexion can look.
Sugar Face
SUGAR FACE
The Symptoms
Lines and wrinkles on the upper forehead, sagging under the eyes, widespread blemishes and pustular or cystic acne, gaunt appearance, thinning of the skin, dark gray or pasty white hue to the complexion.
What It Means
It’s no secret that consuming a bunch of sugar on a regular basis can wreak havoc on your weight, energy, and overall health, but it can also mess with your skin. Sugar leads to glycation, a process in which excess glucose molecules cling to your collagen, distorting it and leading it to be stiff.
If you really want amazing skin and you’re sick of seeing all those spots and fine lines, we’ve got bad news for you. “I recommend avoiding sugar as much as possible — there’s nothing nutritious about it,” says Talib, but adds that it’s okay “every now and then, in moderation.” Key word: moderation.

From the first time we talked to Devan about her wedding, her infections smile and zest for life were so apparent….even over the phone.
We asked her to share a bit about the love of her life, Stephen and how special their day was and here’s what she had to say
Stephen and I met in February when he moved to Las Vegas. His first impression of me was, “This is one crazy lady!” (crazy in a good way, of course). I thought, “This guy is really cool! We’re going to become great friends.” Over the next few months we shared lots of laughs, hikes, tacos, church services, did I mention tacos? Ever so slightly, our friendship began to grow and on Sunday, May 31st, we got engaged!
1.19 Blog 4
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
This verse truly captures the love that Stephen and I have for God as well as each other. We believe that because of our delight in Christ, he has blessed us with one another. So, on Sunday, November 22nd, we made a shared commitment to delight in one another for the rest of our lives and we are very excited about that!
Devan and Stephan- it was an absolute joy to be part of your special day.
The entire Makeup In The 702 family would like to wish you both a life time of joy and abundance.

The Trick to Making Your Wedding-Day Lipstick Last Longer.

February 12, 2016

Blog 1.8 1
The last thing you want to do is spend your entire wedding doing lipstick touch-ups. From the first kiss and multiple cheek kisses you’ll give guests to sipping on champagne and chowing down on the wedding cake, your lip color is bound to get smudged throughout your big night. To help ensure your pout looks as perfect as possible (for as long as possible), we rounded up a few beauty tricks guaranteed to give you a photo-worthy wedding-day smile.
Get your beauty sleep.
Your lips require some pampering before they can handle a coat of color. Sleep with lip balm on your wedding eve, and re-apply in the morning. (like Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Lip Moisturizer!)
Don’t forget to prep.
Before you swipe, exfoliate your lips gently with a sugar scrub or a clean toothbrush. For extra staying power, coat your lips with a primer, which creates a smooth, fade-proof surface, or fill in with a hydrating lip pencil.
Blog 1.8 2

Choose your formula wisely.                                                                                                                                                      In typical long-lasting lipsticks — think two-sided wands with liquid lip color on one end and a shiny topcoat on the other — silicones in the top coat suck moisture from your lips. Newer, all-in-one formulas fix all that by locking in moisture, leaving behind a more velvety finish with no topcoat needed. For long-lasting results, silicones are still king, but look for formulas with natural oils, aloe, and vitamin E for extra moisturizing power.

Brush, blot, repeat.
Go extra-bold by applying color in layers: brush on (using a lip brush avoids feathering), blot with a tissue, and, once dry, add another coat. If you cant stand the drying feeling of lipstick, try a color-rich moisturizing crayon, like Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick.
Go ahead, re-apply.
Many formulas (especially stains) will fade evenly into a lighter hue, but most lipsticks, particularly lighter pinks and nudes, will require at least one re-application. And no, that doesn’t mean swiping on an extra layer. Bring a makeup removing wipe, start with a clean slate, and recreate the look from scratch.

Joe and Laurens story started more than 5 years ago with a chance encounter on the streets of San Francisco and is made up of equal parts metal and magic. Lauren and her best friend took a trip all the way from London to San Francisco to see their all-time favorite band- Faith No More. As chance would have it the girls were standing in line next to Joe and a friend of his, who had also made a long distance adventure out of the concert- traveling from Atlanta. Lauren and Joe hit it off while waiting in line for tickets, the two were inseparable during the show and the rest of the weekend- they even got to meet the band after the concert!!! Picture1

They stayed in touch after their journeys back home to London and Atlanta, and it was just a few weeks later before the duo had plans to meet up for another concert in Amsterdam. Over the past 5 years Laura and Joe have taken trips to visit one another and take trips together as often as possible, and in October of 2014 Joe decided it was time to put a ring on it!!!

Lauren, your love story is almost as beautiful as the love you and Joe share. It was an absolute honor to be part of this lovely day. We are so happy for the both of you and wish you a lifetime of rocking adventure.

Winter Time Skin & Hair Care Tips

December 16, 2015

As the temperatures drop and we start to pull out the long sweaters and warm boots, it’s also a good time to take a look at our beauty routine to make sure we are getting the most of your efforts. You know my mantra! “Good skin and good color go hand in hand!”
Here are a few tips on keeping staying fabulous and bursting those winter blues.
12.11 Blog- drink water
Stay Hydrated-
Drinking plenty of water is a go-to piece of advice all year long for those of us living in this beautiful Las Vegas desert, but it is also so important for everyone else who has a bit more humidity. During the winter months the hot showers, cold winds and dry air can leave our hands and lips chapped and cracked. Of course popper moisturizing is necessary; by staying hydrated you are addressing the problem from the inside out.
12.11 Blog- pink & peach
Sweet Cheeks
This winter you will be seeing lots of pretty peach and coral tones on the cheeks. Obviously the color of your blush will depend on your natural completion, but go for more pink and peachy tons over gold’s or bronze. During the winter months it is totally normal for our com
Stick to SPF
This one might also sound like a summer skincare tip, but it is so important to continue the protection into the winter. The dark clouds and gloomy days can lead us to drop our guard a bit during the winter months, but sun burn and sun blistering can be quite common for those enjoying the outdoors in the low temps. Protect your hands and face from the suns harsh rays by applying a moisturizer with at least 20 SPF every single day.
12.11 Blog- top photo
pletions to be lighter or a bit paler, so don’t fight the winter and embrace the rosy cheeks.
Pamper your locks
Hot steamy showers, dry hot indoor air and static cling can wreak havoc on your mane, and can leave your hair dry, brittle and frizzy in the winter. Even shampooing with the wrong product can strip your hair of moisture. This season, go light on the washing try to skip a wash every now and then. Since big, waves and tousled tresses are making a big comeback this season, it’s a perfect opportunity to give your hair a break.
12.11 Blog- top knot
Chic Top Knot
Quick, Easy, and Glamorous! This effortless up do is a winter beauty staple. Because it only requires a pony holder and a few bobby pins, its casual enough to be worn with jeans and a chunky scarf. But it’s also perfect for statement earrings or a sparkly headband because it is so elegantly simple. Whether you jazz it up or dress it down, be sure to incorporate the top knot this season.
