Rose Gold Makeup That is Almost Too Pretty to Wear

Rose gold: You’ve seen it everywhere. All over your Instagram feed, in the hair of your favorite celebrities, in the home section at Target; heck, it’s even the color of your iPhone and MacBook. Nope. It’s not trendy or anything is the biggest understatement of 2016. And you better bet the gorgeously flattering color is coming for your makeup next. For fall, it’s popping up in highlighters, nail polishes, eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, and more. Obviously, we couldn’t be more stoked.

12-16-rose-1Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in Indiscretion, $44

At first glance, this looks like frozen yogurt swirled into a makeup compact. But once you get over the hesitation to touch it (it’s too pretty!), you’ll be glad you did—you’ll end up looking like the diffused, glowy-skinned girl of your dreams.

12-16-rose-2Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadow in Recharged, $22

The best part about this rose gold glitter is that it comes in liquid form—meaning wherever you choose to put it, it won’t budge. For hours. It’ll look particularly magical in the inner corner of your eyes, layered on top of your existing shadow, or alongside the wing of your cat-eye liner.

12-16-rose-3Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette Rose-Gold Edition, $65

This is the dreamiest eye shadow palette we’ve seen since Urban Decay Naked Smoky. And trust us, the photo does not give the sparkliness of it justice. Our favorite combination? Layer Rose Gold on top of Henna for the prettiest smoky eye ever.

12-16-rose-4RMS Beauty Nail Polish in Solar, $15

We can’t think of a skin tone this wouldn’t look amazing on. Plus, the 6-free, vegan formula means it’s safe for your fingers and the animals.🐰 Win-win.

12-16-rose-5NARS Hardwired Eyeshadow in Outer Limits, $25

Sure, this eyeshadow might look like New Year’s Eve in a pan (not the most practical for everyday…) but once you touch it, you’ll see just how well the color blends out for lower-intensity looks.

12-16-rose-6Jouer Cosmetics Long-Wear Lip Topper in Skinny Dip, $16

This “lip topper” is like lip gloss but better—it’s pigmented as hell, stays on forever, and wearing it looks like you just drank pure unicorn water.

12-16-rose-7Algenist Reveal Concentrated Luminizing Drops in Rosé, $38

A highlighter with skin care benefits? Yesss. This one prevents wrinkles and revives dull-looking skin at the same time.

12-16-rose-8ColourPop Eyeliner in Get Paid, $5

Not sure if rose gold is your thing? This eyeliner costs $5, so you won’t break the bank figuring it out.

12-16-rose-9Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer Powder Radiant Finish, $56

Here’s another too-stunning-to-ruin powder to fantasize over. And if you decide to take the plunge on it, it comes with a cute kabuki brush to help you do the job.

12-16-rose-10Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lip Color in Barely Bloomed, $7.49

The trick to pulling off rose gold lipstick? A little goes a long way. Dab it in the center of your everyday nude or pink to make your lips look slightly more plump.

Winter Weather Makeup Tips for When Your Skin Is Super Dry

Article can be found in its original form, here at Teen Vogue by Alyse Whitney.

12-2-winter-beauty-1

 Prep your skin at night

Starting with moisturized skin is like keeping your car oiled — it’ll be easier to run foundation over it when you get ready. Powerful masks like GlamGlow’s ThirstyMud or celeb fave Wilma Schumann Hydra-Gel Red Wine Treatment Masques provide deep, intense hydration with nourishing ingredients. Use them once a week and see how much your face needs it.12-2-winter-beauty-2

Wash your face with gentle ingredients

Another skin care prep comes from washing your face every day. Go for something gentle, like La Roche-Posay Micellar Solution — which removes makeup, tones, and cleanses without rinsing or letting water dry out your skin — or First Aid Beauty’s Milk Oil Conditioning Cleanser, which removes makeup and dirt while smoothing skin with avocado and coconut oil.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

The last step before grabbing your makeup is obviously using a great moisturizer. Makeup artist Suzy Gerstein suggests looking for “products with moisturizing and anti-inflammatory ingredients to combat the flakiness and irritation that characterize winter skin.” If you have oily skin, try a gel product, like First Aid Beauty’s Skin Rescue Mattifying Gel that absorbs immediately and minimizes pores. If you have combination or super-dry skin, try Skyn Iceland’s Arctic Hydrating Balm that uses cryogenic technology from the Arctic to repair and moisturize skin. No matter what you use, just make sure it’s absorbed before you start putting makeup on.

It’s prime time12-2-winter-beatuy-5

You don’t need a primer if you’ve followed all of the above steps, but it doesn’t hurt. You can combine lotion and primer with Lush’s Magical Moringa lotion that has argan and rose hip oils, or go for the glow with the whipped, pearl-filled lightweight Becca Backlight Priming Filter. The point is to get an even canvas for your makeup, something you can also achieve by adding drops of Cover FX’s Custom Cover Drops to your favorite moisturizer. Two birds, one stone.

Opt for lightweight coverage

When your skin changes, it’s a guess and check system to see what works for you. Suzy suggest working in thin layers and seeing what the skin needs, like a few drops of face oil (or even almond oil) in your foundation. You should “experiment with different products, and see how your skin absorbs them throughout the day,” whether it’s a CC cream like Jane Iredale’s Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer that gives your skin a soft-focus effect while locking in moisture and calming redness, Tarte’s BB cream that has a built-in primer and up to 12 hours of staying power, or your own foundation that you sheer out a bit with a tinted moisturizer.

Keep your smile happy, too12-2-winter-beauty-3

OK, we don’t mean your teeth, but it’s important to exfoliate your lips to get rid of all of the dry, dead skin so you can wear gorgeous lipstick. The Santa Lip Scrub from Lush tastes like chicka-cherry cola (remember Savage Garden, guys?) and its slight red tint will go perfectly with a bombshell red lipstick. We love the Red Door Red from Elizabeth Arden’s Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick line, which seals in moisture and makes your lips look fuller and plumper — even in the winter.

When your lips get dry and you’re out having fun, don’t touch up with lipstick! “If you’ve done a bold matte lip for a night out, rather than touch up with the lipstick you’ve used, which can start to feel dry and yucky as the night goes on, throw a tinted lip balm into your bag in a bright shade and touch up with that instead,” Suzy suggests.

Don’t go overboard on other makeup12-2-winter-beatuy-4

With your skin so sensitive and dry, it’s better to ease up on product use in the winter. A little blush or bronzer on your cheeks will do, but really, the rosy redness from the cold weather will go a long way naturally. Focus on your eyes, using waterproof mascara like Benefit’s Roller Lash to make ‘em pop while not crying black tears from the wind hitting your face, strong brows, and a simple eyeshadow like just one shade from your Naked palette.

Set it, but don’t forget it

Using a setting spray is always the perfect finish, but take it one step further when you’re trying to hydrate with Jane Iredale’s Pommist Hydration Spray, packed with pomegranate and white tea leaf extracts, or Urban Decay’s cult-favorite Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray. Now your makeup won’t budge, and your skin will stay fresh all day… until you repeat the process all over again.

Suzy also suggests filling a rollerball with virgin, cold-press coconut or argan oil to roll over the cheeks and any dry patches for quick touch-ups. Sigh, is it spring again yet?

A Real Love Story- Jaimee and Patrick

love-story-12-2-4

Jamie shared she and her sweet Patricks love story and this romantic proposal completely melted out hearts! A beautiful story, for a truly beautiful couple.

We are so ecxited to be part of such a lovely day with people so deeply and faithfully in love. Thank you so much for choosing us to do your hair and makeup on your wedding, and thank you even more for sharing your sweet story with us.

love-story-12-2-2
Let us start off by saying we left on the 22nd of May, which is my softball number, and he proposed on the 23rd, which is his baseball number! With that out of the way, we went on vacation to Sedona, AZ. It is such an amazing and spiritual place, not to mention beautiful!
Our plan was to go hiking on a trail called “Devil’s Bridge” and we did just that. It was a gloomy day, where the sun wasn’t sure if it wanted to come out. I had second thoughts about hiking just in case it rained at the  risk of getting stranded, however Patrick insisted we go.
As we hiked to the top of the mountain, there were beautiful, scenic views from all angles. Devil’s Bridge itself was pretty intimidating to walk along as it was a long way down on both sides. When we first reached the peak, there were only 6 people on top of the mountain with us. Before walking the bridge, we decided to hang out, relax, and have our brown bagged packed lunch. As time went on, more hikers started reaching the peak where we were and an audience was slowly forming. Patrick had suggested we use the iPhone instead of the digital camera for our photos because of the zoom and quality of the pictures.
 love-story-12-2-3
Unknowingly, I said,”okay” and wanted to walk out on the bridge and take them right away! He stalled a bit and of course wanted to wait, but I was ready to go downtown for shopping and food! I was fortunate to find a couple girls willing to take our photo. When Patrick was ready, he told me to get in line while he was going to let her know what kind of photo we wanted (in reality, how to record the video). Me being oblivious, went to stand in line. As we started walking out, I pointed to a spot to stop and take a photo while he insisted we keep going out to the center of the bridge. I walked further out before turning around. As I went to put my arm around him, he stepped back and got down on one knee. I was shocked (shocked!).. Words can’t describe how happy I was. It was the best day of my life, so far…
Jaimee, we know that your wedding day is going to be one for the record books. We’re so touched to be part of the team and can’t wait too see how it all came together!

This Special Ed Teacher Had All of Her Students in Her Wedding

We’re suckers for adorable flower girls and ring bearers (They’re so mini! And sweet! And precious!) but this wedding party has just about melted us into a puddle of all the emotions. Kentucky bride Kinsey French is a special education teacher at Christian Academy Rock Creek, and when it came time to plan her wedding, she knew she wanted to have her students, who all have Down Syndrome, involved. So she invited all six students to accompany her down the aisle as her ring bearers and flower girls.

11-18-teacher-2

“They were like family to me,” French told Kentucky news station WLKY. “They were my first class and they’ve been my only class and so I knew I couldn’t have a special day without them.”

The result is so sweet it hurts our hearts.

The students told the news station that their favorite parts of the big day included the food (“mashed potatoes!”) and the dancing. French’s students took to the dance floor to show off their dance moves, including the dab and the whip and the nae-nae.

11-18-teacher-3

“It was so exciting, it was really special…just to have them be a part of the day and have them come with us and celebrate with us,” French said.

love-story-11-4-1

Some times the most EXTRAORDINARY love is found in the most ordinary place!!

A few weeks ago we had the absolute pleasure of assisting the lovely Miss Jane with wedding day hair and makeup as she prepared to tie the knot with her sweetie, Renz.  Before the wedding Jane shared a few words with us about how the two if them met.

Crazy Love Quotes And Status
Renz and I met in this magical place called “internet” haha. We met through an online game. Yes, we are gamers. There’s an online chatroom in there and then we chat and decided to meet after a month. Love at first sight to simply put it. We ended up being together for more than 3 years and 6 months ago he proposed to me and on October 22nd we were finally getting married!
Thank you for being part of our happy ever after!
Jane, you are lovely inside and out, and we are just touched that you chose Makeup In The 702 to be part of your special day.

A New Found Love of IKEA

ikea

In the last 6 weeks I have planned and implemented a move to a new studio, a move to a new house and several fabulous get togethers. This busy fall schedule and the recent opening of the new IKEA in Las Vegas has us loving all things Scandinavian and sleek for the season. Here’s a collection of some of the bits we’ve come to love.

rotera-lantern

Rotera Lanterns

Lanterns ($4 each) hung from a tree set such a romantic tone for a sophisticated garden party or backyard bon fire. Inside, they can be lined up along a dining table with spider webs and candles would be perfect for a spooky Halloween set up, and could be transformed with a bit of greenery for Christmas.

Alseda Stoolasleda

With this versatile feature, it can be hard to know if taking a seat in the back yard, setting your cocktail down for a moment or kicking your feet up is more appropriate.

Visionar Hanging Decorations ikea-3

Hang various sizes of these classic paper pompoms ($5 each) give the space dimension. If using outdoors in holiday decor or for a night wedding, wrap with white lights and garland.

IKEA PS Cabinet

This industrial piece works well in a house as a buffet or sideboard, but is also ideal in an office for files and supplies. The sleek lines and industrial appearance provide a really lovely contrast to some softer materials and elements, line luxurious cushions and house plants that are often found in the home.

screen-shot-2016-10-19-at-11-22-32-am

Blomster Candle Holders ikea-4

With elegance and ease, these candle holders ($16 for set of 3) will add height and drama to a table scape or mantle alike. Like many of the lighting options found in that blue and yellow nirvana that is IKEA, these candles have so many uses that they are just perfect for- from wedding decorations to setting a warm and romantic tone on a patio.

While we could joyously spend a whole day wandering from room to room in that lovely warehouse, and every time we go in there a new favorite is spotted, these are just a few at the top of our current list.

For more brilliant inspiration on how to incorporate IKEA into your wedding decor check out this lovely post at Tailored Fit Photography. And the always delightful Brit + Co. has some clever uses as well.

Halloween

Halloween wedding decor. Las Vegas Wedding Makeup

This weekend is one of our absolute favorites of the year!! Not only are we in the absolute height of wedding season, but as the temperature is dropping and colors changing there is a noticeable eerie vibe in the air as Halloween approaches.

We just love when couples incorporate their passions into their weddings, and those with a love of all things ghoulish and spooky are some of the most entertaining. Here we’ve rounded up a few of the classy yet ghastly ways of weaving Halloween into your special day.

halloween-1

These Ouija Board invited are so perfect for a Halloween wedding. They bring in the spooky element ahead of the wedding when guests receive the invite months ahead of time with out giving off the vibe of a school holiday carnival.

halloween-2

What ever the theme or vibe of your wedding, Candy Bars have become a modern day staple to keep little ones entertained and to offer guests a sweet reminder they can take home after your special day. And this holiday celebrates candy almost as it does ghosts and goblins, offering another way to tie in the theme.

halloween-3

Any time a “theme” is chosen for a wedding you run the risk of it turning out to be a……ya know……theme party. There is a chance that things can go over board and detract from the whole purpose of the event, the celebration of love.

These place settings are so incredibly elegant with their delicate white pumpkins, vintage crystal glasses and E.A. Poe inspired dishes- they combine the couples love of spooky and each other in the most wonderful way.

halloween-4

This cake!!!!!! So many Halloween inspired cakes and pastries are a bit garish and gory, with red velvet cake peaking through, or the over done fake blood dribbled all over it. But this….this lovely is really spooktacular (I know….. corny…but I just had to).

halloween-5

Of course, no collection of Halloween inspiration would be complete with out some beautiful sugar skulls!!!!

7 Signs You’re at a Millennial Wedding

September 16, 2016

(Article originally appeared here at Huffington Post by Stephanie Herbst)

9.16-2

They don’t make weddings like they used to anymore. With a smartphone in everyone’s pocket and constant interaction with peers through social media, technology is changing almost every aspect of society. The Millennial generation (that’s people born between 1980 and 2000) are a generation that’s grown up with this technology, and embraces its presence in almost every aspect of their lives. More and more Millennials are on their way to the altar, and that means the weddings you’ll be attending now and for the next few years aren’t going to be your typical wedding soiree. How can you tell that you’re definitely at (or will be going to) a Millennial wedding? Here are seven surefire signs to look for:

9.16-1

1. You heard about their engagement on Facebook, and saw their engagement photos in a Facebook album before receiving their Save the Date.

2. They didn’t build a wedding website using a site like TheKnot.com or mywedding.com — their custom wedding website was built by the best man (or some other close friend) who’s a professional software engineer that specializes in cutting-edge UI.

3. Their wedding invitation included one of the following:
– An infographic design of their love story
– A QR code
– A wedding hashtag

9.16-4

4. Their wedding registry has items like a Nest Thermostat, a Lockitron, an iPad, or some other cutting-edge tech. O
r, they’ve eschewed traditional registry wares entirely and are just asking for contributions to their honeymoon with a digital honeymoon registry.

5. They’ve set up an app for their wedding. Or at least, they’re using their personal hashtag on Instagram to keep track of all their guests’ photos.

6. They didn’t have to decide between getting a DJ or a band — they just used Spotify and put together a playlist. Or, they hired that one friend that likes to pretend that he’s a DJ in his spare time.

9.16-3

7. There’s DIY everywhere, because the bride decided to make a few of her favorite projects from her “Wedding Inspiration” Pinterest board. Which, by the way, she’s been adding Pins to since college.

Have you been to a Millennial wedding with these following attributes? How did it compare to a wedding you’ve been to with less of an emphasis on social media or tech?
