This week as part of our Photographers We Love feature on the blog we want to shine a spotlight on Jamie, the owner of Jamie Y Photography

She is a superbly talented photographer as well as a savvy business owner and supportive friend.  It has been such a treat to see her grow as a creator and to watch really focus in on her fun and edgy style.

Tell us who you are and How did you start in photography?
I’m Jamie with Jamie Y Photography. Photography was something I loved as a kid.  It was always in the back of my mind as something I wanted to pursue.  Then for my birthday one year I got my first DSLR and immersed my self completely until less then a year later I was booking clients.

Why do you do what you do?
I really love the chance to create beautiful images for my clients and help them get to tell their love story.  Being a part of somebody’s wedding day and witnessing the love between a couple is one of my favorite things about my job.

Who is your ideal bride/ couple?
Clients with their own strong personalities, who think freely and live life loudly.

What is your best piece of advice or planning couples?
Choose vendors for your wedding day based on who you really think is the best match for you and not just based on price.  People tend to work best when they are doing work that they love and excel at.  When couples hire only based on price, and not with who they resonate with the best, it doesn’t always create those magical moments where both of your visions align.

What is the most common mistake or misstep you see?
Do you have any tips on how to avoid it?  Trying to cram too much into a short period of time.  I often have clients only booking me for one hour, but then if anything runs late, their time with me ends up getting cut short.  Having a little more time to allow for delays is best.  It also gives you a more relaxed experience instead of feeling rushed.

As, I said before, Jamie has got such a unique eye for fun and beauty. It has been a real treat to watch her taste and style develop into something really outstanding!!

Capturing the Moments with

Taylored Photo Memories &

Cactus Collective

Every day we are so lucky to work with some incredibly talented photographers around the Las Vegas Valley. It absolutely makes our day when we open up our inbox to see some of the beautiful images they capture for our clients.

McKenzi and her team at Taylored Photo Memories and Cactus Collective are  known through out the valley for helping to create unique romantic settings and capture all the special moments there.

Last week we were lucky enough to get to chat with Mckenzi and learn about what drives her passion.

How did you start in photography?
I started photographing when I was in middle school, my first wedding was when I was 14 years old and I LOVED it. I loved capturing my couples having the time of their life. I loved learning about people and their stories. I loved being there on an important day for them.

Why do you do what you do?
I truly believe that everyone deserves to have their memories captured. When you think of your own personal past, what do you remember? Most of us remember moments of their past based on a trigger from a photograph. Or at least I do! Or when you look at old albums from before your time… those are what I want to help preserve for people. Memories.

Who is your ideal bride/ couple?
My ideal couple is a destination couple that is looking for something a little offbeat. Maybe they want a wedding in the desert in Las Vegas. Maybe they were a funky downtown elopement. We help those clients from start to end, even helping them find their ministers, florals, and other vendors. We offer a full-service experience!

What is your best piece of advice or planning couples?
Make decisions and move on. All too often we get caught up in the emotional aspects of our decision makings, especially surrounding a wedding. Just make a decision a day until the wedding planning is complete and you’ll be so much happier!

What is the most common mistake or misstep you see? Do you have any tips on how to avoid it?
I would say that the most common mistake I see is timelines and weather. People normally don’t realize how big the Las Vegas Valley is and if you are planning to do a couple different stops for photos, you have to take time in to account for that. If you are having a strip wedding but want photos in Red Rock Canyon and the dry lake bed, those are at completely opposite ends of the city. Make sure to ask for advice on timelines before making specific plans. The other mistake is people really don’t 100% completely understand how hot it gets here and, believe it or not, how cold las Vegas can get. All too often we have to remind people to prepare for the head of the Las Vegas sun and they normally don’t realize how dehydrating and exhausting that can be! Always hydrate, we’re in the desert!

I Love You a BRUNCH!!!

Recently we have seen two of our very favorite things coming together to create a new fun bridal trend- WEDDING BRUNCH!!!

While there are SO many things to love about morning wedding celebrations and the breakfast and brunch receptions to follow, here are some of our favorite things about the fabulous new brunch wedding trend-

COFFEE

Whether you set up a cute little coffee and tea cart for your guests to pour them selves a cup as they walk into the ceremony or you opt to replace the now classic cupcake or candy bar with a Coffee and Donut Bar – the caffeine consideration is sure to be appreciated by friends and family during a morning celebration!

CASUAL ATIRE

By having your wedding celebration in the first 1/2 of the day, you open up more casual options for the bride and groom as well as the guests.

A shorter hem-line, a little bit of poof, some embroidered flowers and of course ruffles are perfect for a morning wedding.

CAKE

Whether it’d donuts, crepes, muffins or pancake, there is just something about pastries and yummy treats at a Sunday brunch that just seems to make the whole world seem sweeter.  And isn’t that just the perfect vibe for a wedding too?!

An adorable stack of pancakes topped with fresh fruit works great as a passed nibble for when the guests arrive to the reception after the ceremony.

Donuts- one of the most casual and unassuming breakfast foods is given an elegant upgrade with a bit of pink icing and decorated with roses and babies breath.

As some one with an unabashed sweet tooth, have to say that this is for sure my favorite part of a beautiful brunch wedding……all the options for a cake!!!

AVOCADO TOAST and DEVILED EGGS

Ok, Ok……so I didn’t actually see these listed on any Why Brunch Weddings Are Great articles or witness it at any of the beautiful celebrations we have worked with….but how perfect are they for a fun & classy breakfast at a wedding?!?!?!?!

If you are a frequent enjoyer of brunches in your day-to-day life, you will for sure know that avocado toast is pretty much the business at the moment. It can be visually impressive as well as versatile and healthy, and while I know those last two are not always the goal for a wedding menu- they are certainly added bonuses!!

And keeping in tune with the versatility tone of avocado toast- deviled eggs meet the mark as well. They are also an easy and inexpensive way to feed the masses and from little kiddos to grand parents, pretty much guarantee a smile on every ones face.

COST SAVINGS

Because brunch and breakfast happens in the morning and also likely a Sunday, the price of the venue alone will be significantly less than if you booked on the more popular (and expensive) Friday or Saturday afternoon and evening.

While its not nearly as exciting to talk about or as fun as it is decide “donuts vs. waffles”, one of the realities of day time brunch wedding is that it could be a significant savings.

Bandanas and scarfs are a great option for summer hair not only because they are absolutely adorable, but also for the practicality- get that hot heavy hair off the back of your neck and pulled off of your face. So grab a red, white or blue bandana and check out these tutorials before you head out to the pool or bbq!

Swim Suites

This may be the Native Floridian/ born-beach-worshiper in me, but I don’t think you even need a good reason to pick up another swim suit and when it come to ones sporting a TEAM America theme there are most as many options as there are different body types.
